I've taken my son with me to the lease for the past 5 yrs. I've only recently, like last spring, bumped him up from shooting a .22, yea I took long enough because he just turned 9. At any rate we're sitting in the stand Sunday morning and a lone boar came out. He saw it and asked if he could shoot it. I only had my 6.5 Creedmoor with me but I figured the recoil wouldn't be too harsh for him so I figured what the heck. I talked him through everything including to let the crosshairs settle and hold the rifle steady on it. To squeeze the trigger until it fires but continuing to hold the rifle steady. I ask him if he had the hog in the scope and if he was steady. He says yes. I look at the hog and tell him to shoot whenever he was ready. Bang!!! 135 yards is my feeder distance (didn't bring a rangefinder when I set up the blind and feeder). Hog makes a loud squeal and just dropped where he stood. Guess he's got the green light to pull the trigger on a whitetail. Lol

Thx everyone.
And a big LOL Big Pig, I didn't feel like messing with that hog. My son understands and knows that hogs are a problem. At least you took it instead of feeding the yotes

That thing was a whopping! he had a solid 2 inches of hard fat between his cape and meat, which is why he didn't bleed when shot. We only got around 40-50 pounds of meat from him, which will be even less after being de-boned. But meat is meat and I'm happy to have it

Congrats to you and the boy. I think you did exactly perfect deciding when to let him shoot the "cannon", he likely appreciates what he accomplished even more now, great job.
