Anybody hunted Old Sabine Bottom before? I haven't been able to find out much about it. My uncle was drawn for Gun Deer Either Sex and we are trying to figure out what we can since we wont be able to get out and scout around.

Side question about public hunting in general. My uncle and I are both new to drawn hunts, 2 years ago I was drawn for GDE on Pat Mayse. I was the only one on the ticket so I did it by myself. But then when I got there there were a bunch of other hunters who had been drawn and were adding their sons, dad, brothers, buddies, etc. onto their compartment. They just paid the fee on the spot and went on with it. Is this standard operating procedure or does it vary by WMA and TPWD Official? I want to get out there with my uncle since I wasn't drawn this year, but they haven't returned my phone call when I called to ask and I don't want to drive out there just to turn around and drive home.

Thanks!

Colt.45 can probably answer a lot of your questions as he has hunted it quite a bit I believe. Mainly for hogs. He should come along shortly.

I would think it varies at each one and depends how many extra tags they have left. I believe when they have extras it's first come, first served.

welcome ta THF & ta WMA Draw hunts... Have done the archery deer&hog hunts. & the 3month general hog hunts... Unfortunatly not done draw hunts.. They do have a great crew that run the place, & sure theirs few in forum that can help ya with your questions..
If ya have map, N boundry is the river & S channel S boundry... It's divided down middle by easment road with primative camp site, with cleaning station at first camp... Were they hold BBQ & oreantiin.. ATV has been recomended in past cause can get muddy, it floods at times... Have walked trails going east, easing off trail few times, & 3 hours one way wasn't at end were its thick with pamedo plants..
It holds some nice deer, & plenty hogs... Tis proud suporter of WMA ... Gives the low income people place ta enjoy the out doors... keep your head held high & your powder dry ... Best Wishes... flag

Thanks for the info. I have been told to bring an ATV if we can get a hold of one.

What you probably saw were stand-by hunters. It's EXTREMELY unlikely they would allow a drawn hunter to "add on" another person or persons to his hunt.It would be major change in policy if TPWD did that. Also I'm sure the stand-by hunters were adding names to the card before, not after,it was drawn from the hat/coffee can.

That make more sense. I'm still planning on rolling out there and see if I can get in then.

Bring your chest waders. As of today, lots of water everywhere. Should rain Opener, so water will be deeper. Make sure you have a cell phone if you get stuck back there!!!

Saw two dogs, two Yots, and more small and big ducks than I have seen in years this morning. Water is flooding the low spots now at the river.

No real cell phone, After being chained to my work phone 24-7 I will not have one. Wife has a Trac phone foe traveling. Sat in my box blind for 4 hours and watched the ducks. Will go in the morning if wind is good. Food plot got fertilized a bout 5 days ago. Looking good.
Did you ever get some snake boots or chaps??????????

Tied to get to my stand near the river yesterday. Water was up to my rubber boot tops 1000 yds. from the river. Did have a under 13" buck come by one of my other stands at 25 yds.
