My brother and I were drawn for the gun deer either sex hunt for colorado bend annex in mid december. We are excited for this hunt because the area has never been hunted before and we have to backpack in for 3 days. My question is...has anyone ever hunted colorado bend state park? It's the same area but its the part of the park that is on the other side of the colorado river so I assume the deer are similar. How are the deer numbers and size around this area? I also heard rumors that there are some aoudad in this area that are free game on these hunts. Is there any truth to that? Thanks in advance.

Never hunted there but should be plenty of deer. Probably rough country... there are some large ranches that adjoin that area that have good hunting. Fair chance at some exotics as well.
Good luck!

This info is from the last Hunt Catalog I received in 2013, before they went to all the info on the idiot box.

CBSP is located west of Lampasas - tha last place to get a hotel room & a restuarant meal, approx 22 miles to the "town" of Bend, then another 5 miles down a gravel road to the Check Station....or about 45 minutes at 4am in the dark.

Hunts are by assigned compartment...prolly bring your own popup or ladder stand, call 'em and double check everything....especially the atafloxin level restrictions on corn used for baiting.

Yes on Aoudad on the property - gotta a cousin who claims he's killed a couple & some of the Hunt area is really vertical along the far side of the river where the 'dad's live, great Hill Country area and super nice SP managers.

CBSP is about as close to San Saba as Lampasas, might stay there.

My lease is off 580 outside of Lampasas. I've spoken to the one guy that hunts right on the East side of the Colorado river from the park( they call his portion of the lease "no man's land"). He showed me some pics of some monster deer a couple of years ago. not like anything any of us have on camera...... Good luck and post some pics so I can curse you smile

I use to hunt the ranch that "no mans land" was on. It use to be one of the best ranches in Lampasas County. Half of that ranch was sold. The guy who bought it high fenced and is now a deer breeding operation going on there.
