Man, it was way ahead of its time and one hell of a rimfire. I wish savage would start a semi auto in 5mm rem instead of 17hmr

If ammo was competitive with 17hmr or 22wm, then I'd be all for it.

It is aguila makes a steady supply of it.

The dreaded store I refuse to ever spend a dime at anymore sells it (or at least they use to).

Seems like Taurus introduced a 9 shot 5mm revolver a few years ago. Might want to look into that.

They advertised them and made some up for shows and demonstrations, but I don't think they ever made into real production.

Yeah then if they did you could have inflated prices and hard to find rim-fire along with the rest!

I recently got a savage bolt action in 17 HMR and the thing shoots amazing even with the rinky simmons scope I had laying around. Eventually, I'll order it somrthing nicer but 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards off the truck window is pretty dang good for me.

I've never shot a 5mm but the marlin bolt action .22WMR I used to have didn't hold a candle to this one. It gets clean pass throughs on 3/4" wood at 50 yards. Can't imagine needing much more out of a rimfire.

Ballistically the 5mm rem is the king of the mountain other than the new 17wsm. Just google it. I can find it only really easy. Yeah taurus juat did prototype and never produced.

cat slayer check out remington model 591 and 592, the ballistics are better than the 17hmr and 22mag

According to the 5mm rimfire forum, Centurion has stopped manufacturing 5mm and the ammo supply is now drying up again. If you have found a steady supply, you might want to stock up. I can't seam to find any anywhere.

I grew up hunting with a 5MM. It was a really cool little round. Finally sold all my 5MM rifles a few years ago when I became convinced CZ was going to put one out. Well, that never happened and it is my understanding that every gun manufacture that takes a look at it gets scared off for some reason or another. I do not ever expect to see another rifle made for it. They are fun to shoot if you ever run across one, but you have to put up with one of the worst triggers ever made.I still have plenty of ammo and one of my brothers still has a gun we shoot sometimes. Plenty of info about them on rimfirecentral.com

The higher pressure of the 5mm means manufacturers can't simply chamber their existing rifles in 5mm rem rimfire. That's why Remington had the dedicated 591 and 592. I don't think the economics are there for retooling and maintaining a new production line.
