I'm new to all this and trying to figure out how it all works. HT, MH, FT, AFC, FC, NFC, derby, divisions......etc

I've been reading trying to figure everything out. Came across this explanation of FC and AFC titles.

Why are 10 points + 1 win required for the the FC while you must gain 15 points + 1 win for the AFC title.

"FC=Field Champion to earn this title a dog needs at least 10 point with at least one win in the Open division. 5 points are awarded for a 1st place, 3 for second, 1 for third and 1/2 point for 4th place. This test can be run by either an amateur handler or a professional and the division is called the "Open"."

"AFC=Amateur Field Champion. The amateur refers to the status of the person handling the dog. A total of 15 points plus a win are required to earn this title."

Assuming we are talking about retriever trials, I suggest joining one or two retriever clubs, get to know club members and start asking questions. Field trials have winners (dog/handler against dog/handler - who is best) and in hunt tests the dog/handler is judged against a standard (did they pick up the marks, steadiness,etc.). Have you checked out www.huntingretrieverclub.org ? I have enjoyed the UKC HRC for retriever training and tests for over 25 years. There are some great clubs in Texas.

I'm not quite sure that answered his question... haha. I think he gets the premise of all the retriever events/venues, he was curious in the difference in points needed in FC and AFC.

also, if an amateur runs the open and gets open points and open win the dog automatically earns ther fc and afc title.
amateurs can run opens but pros cant run amateurs. the opens are usually harder than the amateur but not true at every trial

It still takes 10 points including a win to get an FC title, if an amateur gets the 10, they count towards the AFC title. Getting the FC title is harder because you are going against pros. These days getting either title is pretty special, wouldn't you say Mike W.?
