I was reading the thread on hunting in the rain and this thought came to me: When I die, I HOPE that my kids when they go through my hunting stuff say.....Man, this stuff is in kinda rough shape. Or, Man, this stuff has seen it's better days. I'll look down (hopefully) and say....YEP. Lots of better days.
Secede!!

I just hope that my kids are able to take care of themselves and live very long, happy lives.
If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

I just hope that my kids are able to take care of themselves and live very long, happy lives. No kidding... Speaking of dying. In that I live on the ranch that I hunt, I have it in my will that I'm to be cremated and timed dispensed from my favorite feeder. Once empty, the feeder is to be taken down and the area not hunted again. Just me and the critters.

No kids of my own, but, I have 3 'adopted' grand children. My will leaves my firearms to them. I've already arranged to have my ashes scattered on a friend's ranch. I know my grand son will appreciate what he gets from me. He's already had one rifle passed down and he's only 5. His two sisters will get some of them as well. At least this way I know that I'm leaving something behind to someone that will care for it and remember the good times that we had.
If it isn't for the kids, what good are you?

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.
Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

Knock on wood, we managed to raise our 3 kids to be independent, productive people. Our will says that the home place is never to be sold and we have money set aside to pay the taxes for quite a few years. We're not wealthy by any means but we want our kids and grandkids to always have a place to enjoy the outdoors. In my mind the best thing I could ever do is to leave them a piece of Texas.
In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

I respect your wishes, but I'm the opposite. I've seen too many family squabbles over land. Yes, it's an amazing place. Yes, it's part of Texas. When my dad died, the place he and my mom restored and loved dearly became a shrine to him for my mom. She wanted to know why we weren't going there more often. (We had little kids and we wanted them to live their lives, not "Mimi's" life.) I promised my dad that I'd take care of Mom. It took me quite a while to figure out that I hadn't promised to keep her entertained every weekend.
In the end, it's just land, no matter how special it is. My home is not on this earth. The kids will sell our place and split the money. Or, if I can judge the timing alright, I'll sell it and split the money four ways.

To each his own Creekrunner. At the very least I will meet my maker satisfied that I left them a place to get away from it all.

Your land. Your kids. Your rules.
That's what makes Texas great.

When I go, I will only leave my hunting tools to hunters that will appreciate and use them.
If that is my kids and future grand kids, that would be nice.
If I don't believe they will appreciate them and use them, they will go to friends that I believe will.
