And so it begins! Opening weekend was a wet one to say the least. Saturday the best hunts came from ponds closer to the coast for both our day and club hunters. Our prairie ponds had mixed results reported from club. Either it was a barn burner or rather slow as the birds had a ton of options with water everywhere. Sunday the prairie was a little better and almost everyone reported seeing a ton of birds migrating in. Best hunts came from groups that threw big spreads which is usually needed when water is everywhere or trying to draw migrators down. As water continues to drain off, the number of options the birds have will start to decrease. All this rain should make for an awesome waterfowl season on the Texas Coastal Prairie as water should be holding in places that haven't had any for a number of years and old roost should provide un-harassed resting and roosting areas. Lots and lots of specks are already down for it being this early in the season and we've seen roughly 1000 snows as well. If we continue to get these fronts, more and more snows should continue to arrive. If that's the case, we should have enough snows to start goose hunting by around Nov. 15th and actual shoot good numbers of snows instead of just specks.

Here are a few pictures from opening weekend from our day hunts and club, hope you enjoy!

Looks like you're still busting a lot of teal. What was the ratio of teal to big ducks? Thanks for sharing the pics.

Don't know the exact ratio, but I'd guess 60-70%. Shot and saw a lot of big ducks as well, more than normal I'd say for our area this early in season.

Water got a little deep in that 9th photo huh? I agree with it being a good season on the prairie. We had a decent hunt on Sunday. Didn't even try to brave that storm on Saturday morning. I'm not that mad at them...yet.

He will put you on birds
No questions
You will see 1000 birds, like in low on the deck
No north texas pond hunting there
The real deal
Just plain awesomeness
One of the best operations i have seen in the last 20 yrs in south texas

Just a little.... Water was about 4-5 inches from the top of the pit and during the hunt it starting pouring down rain. 45 minutes later water was coming over the sides and filled her up. One of the guys forgot something in the blind so he's trying to fish it out in the picture. Needless to say the overflow structures have been adjusted, but when it rains 2-3 inches in 45 minutes they just can't keep up with the run-off.

Would you mind explaining to me how that works?

For example; I know you guys charge X for a spot and I know they charge Y, do I not have the same hunting privileges through them as I would if I was strictly a RnG member? Talking hunting only

They have a couple groups on our club. They have to follow and abide by the same rules as any other club group. They have the same access to ponds as any other club group we have. I'm not sure how they run their reservation system or who gets to hunt when, that's up to them. As long as they are following and abiding by our rules that every other group has to follow, however they structure it is good with us.

I think they set theirs up for individuals. We(Run-N-Gun) don't piece together groups to make a full club group. We spend our time working on the properties and developing relationships with land owners and farmers. If you're an individual and wanted on our club, going through COF would probably be your best route. Since our club is full and we won't be adding any additional groups, signing up through them might be the only way to get on, and that's if they aren't full.

I hope I answered some of your questions and I'm sure I generated a lot more. Best thing to do would be contact Jimmy (281) 788-8435 or Lane (281) 914-9077 that run COF and they can explain how they do things better.
