Hello. My wife has a fishing license currently. It expires tomorrow the 31st. She wants to get the super combo and we want to go hunting (bow) tomorrow. Does anyone know if we can get her the super combo before her fishing license expires? We went to wal@*#$ and the geniuses there said it was not available since her fishing license has not expired. Can we renew it tonight?

Doesn't make sense that she can't buy a super combo.

I bet if you hadn't told them about the fishing license, there wouldn't have been a problem.
Clearly you overloaded the clerk with information.

Shouldn't be a allowed problem Agreed. But is she at an age where Hunter Education is required? She can purchase a one-time deferral, but still cannot hunt alone, which is defined as hunting beyond normal speaking distance of a certified hunter, or a hunter old enough that HE certification is not required.

Tried academy and walmart. When they take her license the super combo isnt even an option because she has a valid fishing license (even tho it expires tomorrow). We took the hunters ed last year and her hunting expired but she bought the fishing later. So we will try tomorrow. Kinda stupid that she cant get the supercombo until her fishing expires yet she could renew just her fishing license.. oh well.

The system should be setup such to allow her to upgrade to the Combo license at any time. I suspect it would have allowed her to purchase just a hunting license, but that would have negated the reason for buying the combo.

I don't understand why that's a problem? We can buy hunting/fishing licenses on 8/15 every year even though our current licenses never expire until 8/31. Maybe it's because her fishing license is a "from date of purchase" type?
As for buying on line the e-mail they send that you can print is only valid, from what I understand, on game not requiring a tag, like dove.
I know I was of absolutely no help, but best of luck.

The only problem is the vendors that do not understand the licensing requirements. New licenses go on sale on August 15th, and then expire on Aug 31 the following year. The only reason a vendor asks you for your old license is so it is easier to type in the info. Having a previous license is not a requirement to buy a new one. You only need: * Proof of identity. * Supply your SSAN so they can make sure you are not behind in child support. To the O/P, if you are like the majority here on this forum and hate lying, then go to your favorite vendor and ask for the super combo. Pull out your DL and SSAN card if you have it. Leave your old license at home so you can honestly say you don't have it with you. And finally, since I am not a lawyer, get your facts from the source starting here... http://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/licenses/faqs#section-0Good luck on the hunt, enjoy, and

We will try again today. We tried online too and the option wasnt there. After looking at the guide its not lawful to have two valid licences so im guessing thats why. Kinda stinks cuz if she just buys the hunting license then later gets the fishing we will be in the same boat next year. Oh well.

I just logged in and I see it. Here are the types you are looking for, 503 Resident Combo Hunting and Freshwater Fish Pkg $50.00 504 Resident Combo Hunting and Saltwater Fish Pkg $55.00 505 Resident Combo Hunting and All Water Fish Pkg $60.00
You won't have two valid licenses. Once you buy your new one then retire the old one out of your wallet. If a GW license checks you then give him/her your new one. Perfectly valid and legal. You will also be in the same boat next year if you only buy the hunt now and fish later - still perfectly valid and legal. PS - those deer tags on the fishing only license are NOT valid for tagging a deer and they are marked as such.

I bought my super combo back in august. My super combo from last year still had a couple of weeks before expiration. Academy had no problem. I've done this for years. Somebody needs to get their head out of their arse.

Somebody needs to get their head out of their arse. The problem isn't duplicate hunting licenses, but a duplicate fishing license that would result from a Super Combo purchase while her current fishing license is still valid. The system would have most likely allowed her to purchase a stand-alone hunting license since she only had a fishing license at the time, even though it was set to expire the next day. Once that license had expired, I feel certain the system would have allowed her to purchase a new Super Combo that would cover her for both hunting and fishing. I also suspect you purchased you new Super Combo license after the date in August when new license sales begins. If you had tried to purchase it before that date, the system would have probably rejected the sale in the same manner.

I have a lifetime combo license and went to renew it today, the states computer system is so screwed up that the guy kept telling me that "I'm not in the system" and when they did find my name (had 3 different addresses for me) it said I was invalid for the lifetime combo. Gave them last years license and it showed someone else's name. Finally after 20 mins of them searching they tried a different computer and low & behold my name magically popped with the lifetime option. I was thinking I had been identity hacked for awhile.

That still doesn't make any sense! Wow....how frustrating. I buy my super-combo every year on 8/15 and the license I have in my wallet doesn't expire until 8/31.

That would be after the "official" start date for new license sales, which always occurs during the first or second week of August. I suspect that's the date when the system resets and allows you to buy a new license to replace your old one.

We're still after the "official" start date. I can see why she would not be able to buy another fishing licence, but a not a hunting license? I know this is well after the fact by now, but still wondering.

She could have got the individual hunting license. Should also could have renewed just the fishing license. for some reason she could not get the super combo until after the regular fishing license expired. Now that the fishing license has expired, it shows as an option on the website and in stores. She opted just to stay home this weekend and not deal with the weather anyways so we will just go and get the super combo now for her
