Hey Everyone,

Whats up with the TPW saying you have to enter the public lands at one of the designated access points or boat ramps but when I called one of the metro mess offices and they told me I couldn't launch my boat at two of the boat ramps until the posted opening time of 6am. That seems counter productive to allowing boat hunters access to the area unless they want us running the lake at shooting time confused I'm not going to openly name the area on here but if anyone has some insight to this or would be willing to discuss just PM me.

Thanks

Unfortunately in Texas, this is true.

My lake has 1 ramp that stays open 24/7 during winter for hunters, all the other ramps open at 6am. Idk if other lakes do this as well.

I know a lake where it's been that way for 15+ years.

I have to agree with garrett on this one. grin

That's all private ramps... a true public ramp will not be closed.. I don't know of any but in parks that close at any time around here

Its not hard to see why a lot of private ramps or parks do such too... go look at a public ramp open 24/7.. its never a pretty site.. don't blame the state blame the people that don't know how to clean up after themselves

Those ramps are in the State Parks. It is because the state park does not open till 6am. Just use a different ramp on the lake. Pretty much all state parks have hours and closed to access at night. If it is one of the parks that has a way for paid campers to come and go after hours, I have paid for a basic tent camping spot before as a way to enter a park to launch before they opened the next morning.

You are going to have to camp in the parking lot or on the water.
