I have a Remmington 710 .270. The operating handle broke off the bolt. There is still a piece of the lever in the bolt. All I need is a new bolt. A friend and I have both talked to numerous people about this issue including Remmington, and they all say the same thing. You cannot just buy a new "bolt" for the gun and expect it to work correctly. Is there any truth to this? I want to order a new bolt, slip it in and be done. (no laughing) Am I going to have to send the rifle back to Remmington for repairs? I only paid 250. for this gun. They should have mass produced these guns right? And parts? suggestions please

Remington is correct. You can't just stick another bolt in there and assume it's safe. Headspace and other issues come into play here.

Sometimes you can replace a bolt and things will work out fine, but you can't count on it. I changed out the bolt on a custom 98 Mauser and it headspaced just like the old one. I lucked out.

I've had Savages that could share bolts.

I've had Savages that could share bolts. That's different...they have the floating head design. Regardless, they should still be headspaced to each bolt. There is a potential problem there....but I know you know that.
