I'm curious as to what hunters that use a blind are willing to pay for a prefabricated blind (wood, fiberglass, etc.)? It seems like prices are all over the map and I've seen prices as high as $4,000 (Nature Bind). I know there are a lot of guys that prefer to build their own, but there are plenty that like a turn key product they can buy and drop in place and start hunting.

Not much. I have built almost all of mine and paid $300 for a 4x6 Monarch to a guy that was getting off the lease and didn't want to have to haul it.

Have a buddy that is about to buy the Nature Blind. He is buying one of the scratch and dent versions though, think for around $3k or so.

A lot depends on how well it was made and what materials were used in the build. I build all of mine out of Hardi siding and will not use plywood anymore. I prefer fiberglass or insulated metal if buying as they will be lower maintenance and should last a very long time. I can get a 4'x6' fiberglass blind with good windows for around $900-1100 without a tower around my area.

Are you using the Hardi 4x8 sheets or the actual siding? I e been considering the 4x8 sheets for refinishing my blind next year

Big pig, I would use the sheets with metal trim on the edges (top, corners use screws instead of nails and adhesive)

I'm going to build one of my own over the next couple of weeks. Don't have a welder but I have a lot of scrap lumber.

Yes I have built several blinds since 2004 using the 4x8 sheets of Hardi. I use all treated lumber for the framing in the build with the Hardi as siding. No woodpecker issues or rotting lumbers after a few years. Painting them is kept to a minimum also with the Hardi also. I will not use anything else when I build my own blinds.

I've had pretty good luck with the "Smart-siding" which is OSB, but with a textured and primed surface. I'm careful to seal the edges and give extra care to the screw holes. It is a bit lighter and less expensive than Hardi-panel. I've used it for a variety of weather-exposed projects and they have all lasted much better than painted plywood. Hardi-panel does last longer but Smart-siding has been more than good-enough for me.

I built a 4' x 6' three years ago that still looks like new. The cost to build, with "Elevator" brackets and 4" x 4" treated posts was under $500. I'd probably sell one for $750-800, delivery would be more.

It depends on how long you want the blind to last. If you have the time to build one correctly you can save a little money but they are typically much heavier than fiberglass. I have a T-Box that is fiberglass blown over rigid foam insulation panels. It's a nice bug-free blind but I'm not happy with how the windows open and there were a few leaks around the windows and door that I had to re-caulk on the day I picked it up. 5 years later it's still in perfect shape with a new paint job every 2-3 years. I paid around 1k for it and I would do it again but I would do a better inspection before taking delivery I would also have the manufacturer put in vertically opening windows. I tried to have it done on my first purchase but I couldn't get the manufacturer to call me back.
My wife has a Redneck Predator 360 that is really nice and I think it will last a real long time but it was around 3k. I wouldn't have spent that much but she didn't hesitate. Her's is on a 10' stand and she and I were able to stand it up as a complete unit.

Build your own you can make it as good as you want it to be.

I'm too cheap to buy store bought.

I'm in the OSB siding crowd, with a plywood roof and floor.

Whatever materials cost, I think building blinds is part if the experience

I've built most of my blinds. They are 4x4 with a tin roof. Cost runs between $250 and $300 to make them. If I ever make more, I think I'll go to 4x5 so I can stretch out better when I nap.

Only bought one blind, and that was the 4x6 fiberglass from Redneck Blinds. I wanted a 10 foot high blind, and figured it was just easier to buy than build. Cost was somewhere around $2500 delivered to me. Seemed kinda steep pricewise, but I really do like the blind, going into the 3rd year of use. Absolutely no complaints. Well...maybe one. The darn buzzards like to perch on it and on the ladder. Buzzard crap all over the ladder. I've quit biting my nails.

I assume you may be looking into building them for sale. There are always folks out there who will pay for quality. Likewise there are those who prefer to do it themselves, and of course the ever present "that cost to much, or I can build it cheaper myself". Build your blind the best you can and put it out there at a fair price and they will sell at least that is what I've found with game hoist and winch feeders. I started to build for myself but kept going for other people and to help pay for my addiction/hunting. Treat folks fair, give high quality at a fair price and you will do fine.

All great feedback....So here is my next question for guys that are purchasing a prefabricated blind or even those that opt for a build your own scenario. What about weight? That always seemed to be the biggest issue I have in my own personal hunting experience. I have hunted every scenario from a deer lease to being very fortunate to hunt family property. With that being said the ability to be mobile is a reality for some hunters. If you purchase a prefabricated blind or go through the DIY scenario and build your own blind what steps do you take if any to maintain portability and how do you go about moving blinds. Sure you can go purchase a pop up style blind, but like me you probably know that is not an ideal scenario for many reasons. I just moved 2 blinds I built myself (4'x4'x5') both are made of plywood with an aluminum cap and window frames with a welded base to raise the blind 10" off the ground and use leveling feet for uneven ground. I would estimate each of those blinds weigh somewhere around 300lbs. Not exactly a 2 man job to lift and maneuver. Thankfully I have access to a good size tractor with a front end loader with forks, so I can pick that blind up and set it on a flatbed trailer and move as necessary.

I move my 4x4 wooden homemades with the tractor and front bucket. I put the bucket, with bucket mouth open and against the blind wall, then use a big yellow strap to strap the blind to bucket. Then raise and slightly tilt the blind toward me and just drive the tractor to where I want the blind and set er down.

Note that this is only for blinds that are less than 6 feet off the ground. And strap the blind above its center of gravity. Be careful.

I paid $600 for a 5x5 and $750 for a 4x6 a few years ago. They were built from all wood. One was on 8 ft legs and the other was on 5 ft. To me, it's well worth the extra money to buy one. I might feel different if I had built a few and could throw one together pretty quickly.

I use metal "cover sheets" from Metal Mart. They cost less than regular sheets because they're scratched up some. If you want to paint it, wipe the metal down with white vinegar to "taint" the galvanized metal and let dry before painting. Lightweight and lasts long. Good Luck!

Building them is part of the fun.

We use 4x8 hardiboard siding for ours it works great. No rot, been out since 2009 and we haven't even repainted them yet and they are still looking good.

My main blind that I spend most time in is an insulated aluminum 4X6..Love it, never needed a heater.

Not much. I built what is essentially a wooden quad pod this year. 16 ft tall, and added a roof to it, also made of wood. Cost me less than $200, but its what I could afford. If I had the disposable income, I think my max for a blind would be about $1000

We always built our. Anything from ground blinds to some probably 15ft or more just in tower height. Some of them are decently heavy but you can get alot done with come alongs and high lift Jacks

I paid $5500 for 2 6x6x8 fiberglass blinds
one is mounted on a 5ft platform the other just on a 1ft metal base
-has lockable door, sliding windows on all sides, carpeted, full length window ledges

was going to build them but decided my time is more important

having owned a fiberglass blind I'll never go back to wood -
less maintenance

I'll be glad to pay $2500 for a blind going forward

A friend of mine around Waco bought a 5x7 full metal insulated blind on heavy 8' tower over 15 years ago.
I don't recall the brand, wish I knew because I'd buy one.

Safety glass tinted no glare windows, padded gun rests on window ledges, lower & upper shelving with 4 drink holders, fully carpeted interior, 12v interior light, 12v power source / plugs for charging or any 12v use, stairs with hand rails on both sides, metal porch that is probably 4' wide by 7' with propane tank & battery box holder & large 12v solar panel mount off to one side that doesn't take up porch space.

Never had a drop of moisture or bug in it that didn't come through an open door or window.
Still looks brand new inside & out, never been re painted or re carpeted.

He paid $2800 for it that long ago delivered & set up.
In today's money I have no clue how much it would be.
