Anyone seeing any decent bucks up here yet? Im new on this lease, property extends to the Red River a few miles east of Prairie Dog Town Fork. The section I am on has not been hunted for a couple years due to a land ownership court dispute. The larger portion of the lease consists of rolling sandy hills with scattered trees but the part I am set up on is pretty flat with scattered mesquites and other small trees. I can see deer blinds off in the distance on the OK side. At any rate I have ZERO pics of any large or mature bucks. Both of my feeders are open, no pens due to no cattle. And Ive only had the pigs at my feeders one time. I have plenty of does showing up. Deer tracks are EVERYWHERE traveling in all directions. Existing lease members have taken some very nice bucks in the past years on the rolling hills portion. Im just a little stumped as to why I dont have a single mature buck showing up yet. Only buck coming in is a small 1.5 year old 4 point. I've hunted the lease years ago and watched mature bucks chasing does during the rut exactly where Im set up now. Seems as though I need to wait for the rut! Sorry for the long post.

don't know about where you are, but in our neck of the woods its not just pretty green...its terribly green...we don't have anything but youngsters coming to feeders and very few pigs...that'll change first freeze...if you build it....they will come...

Food + water + cover + warmer temps = little movement at least until the juices get to flowing. I suspect starting the week of the 9th buck activity will increase a great deal in this part of the country, weather permitting of course.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

I agree with what others are saying. It is still early and just a few weeks ago it was in the mid 90's. Hopefully the cool weather will continue and while I don't want it to stop raining it would be nice to spread it out a little. Give it time and the boys will start chasing and fighting over the girls...but I did see a four pointer with a group of three does on the way home from Cypress a couple weeks ago.

I have learned not to trust the cam as a perfect monitor, i catch a lot of mature bucks scooting by at about 50 yds, that never end up on a picture.

I hunt north of you in Wheeler county and you wouldn't pay a dime for my place until you hit about the second week in November. It's like someone hits the buck button! Give it time and see what happens!

Based on this year's rainfall and good groceries, I want to see does on my camera for now. They'll bring in the bucks when the time is right. They won't go looking for the bucks. Won't have to. I've had some years where I had nice bucks on camera pre-rut. Guess what. They got shot on neighboring places when the rut kicked in - by my cousins who's father owned the adjacent place.

If you've got does, then the only question is when to be there to intercept the cruising bucks.

Up in that part of Tx I have hunted near Quanna and noticed deer love giant wide open spaces up there. Glass them there early in morning and then find where they are going to cover. Hunt there.

I used to hunt west of Memphis for several years and I always planned my hunts around a good cold front. Up there nasty weather always seemed to get the big deer moving, rut or no rut.

Ya I know they are there and it's just a matter of time. I was just hoping to catch at least one on the camera. I'm not worried about it. I know some big ones roam the area up there. Once it freezes enough to make the leaves fall, my area is pretty open and I can see pretty far almost 360 degrees around my stand.

Ive been hunting Hardeman county for 7 years, past experience has shown that mid November is when the bigger bucks will be on the prowl. Im 3 miles south of the river on the western edge of the county. Im only seeing small bucks and countless doe right now. I havnt been up on opening weekend in several years for that reason.
