So I have a trail cam pic of a small buck that's got a split main beam. Looks as if this is his first rack. As in split main beam I mean that from what I can tell on his right side he has 6 and on his left he has a spike shooting up and then an entirely different beam with a fork on it. Very unique. any input on how this guy might turn out? Any experience? Thanks yall

Could turn out to be a freak. I'd say any deer that sports a first rack like that gets at least 2 more years. Looks like a two year old to me confused2

Could be wrong, I have been before, but he doesn't look like he would make AR. I hunt AR. But good luck.

With antlers you never know. Could be from an injury in velvet. Hopefully he makes it to next season. If he does and has the same thing going on, he could have genetics to grow a third main beam.

Interesting looking deer. I think he is young, but I doubt that is his first set of antlers.

We have a pick of a similar buck this year, will be interesting if we ever see him or if he even keeps it in coming years.

Get as many pics of him to find you something to identify him from as far as color on the hair or head or a knick in the ears cause he most likely will not look like that next year. IMO that is velvet antler damage and not genetic. I have seen to many bucks with a "double main beam" and only seen two of them have multiple years.

Funny that this thread came up; this year I have my first pics of a buck with a split/double main beam on his right side. Never seen this before, so guessing, as stxranchman said, that it's probably a one-year oddity. Pretty cool.

We have a deer that looked a lot like this one last year. He put on a little more horn this year and now close to 12 points as a 2 yo. We're going to let him continuing growing up hoping for something really unique in a couple years.

I was lucky enough to harvest this double main beam buck. He broke the drop time off when rubbing out of velvet.
