I'm wanting to build a 6.5 creedmoor and would appreciate some recommendations on a gunsmith to do the build around the east side of the metroplex. Also, from the ground up, what do you think it would take to build one?

Scott Weichel at live oak accuracy. He built mine and it's a laser. Price will all depend on options you choose but I'll say ballpark of $3000-$4000

It's worth the 3 hour drive to see Aaron Roberts, in Spring.

I will throw in a recommendation for Horizon Firearms although located in Bryan Derrick is a 6.5 Creedmoor aficionado and builds a fine rifle.

Might as well mail it.

Longrifles Inc
GAP
RW Snyder
Gene Williams

I have sticks made by the above listed and sticks made local. My money goes in the mail. There is a good selection of local smiths though if you want to keep it local.

X2 for Derrick. He builds the best around. He currently is working on my 30-06. All my builds will be done by Horizon.

Have one from Scott Weichel and when time comes around for another he will build it as well. Have full confidence in his work

Chad with Titan weapons built my 280 Remington and did a fantastic job. He is located in Fort Worth, but I designed it from the ground up.

Everyone here listed so far is top notcg. Ill add travis at texas custom rifles and hes retired usmc hea building me a LR 243 ai, also up there is larry wengler (might have misspelled) from nagels guns in san antonio, also west texas ordnance built my 260 and that rifle is stupid accurate. 20 rds in 18 to 20 mph wind group fit in a quarter and 1st 3 were teens. They are probably my favorite because my 260.

Even though it might be a drive for you, I think you would be happy with Horizon Firearms. Derrick is great to work with and his rifles shooters. He will work with you to make sure you are satisfied. He is finishing up on a 6.5 CM that I am having him build. Not my first with him and won't be my last.

You could always just buy a Savage action and build it yourself. You'd save 50% or more over a gunsmith custom build.
I've put 6 of them together over the years, and they all shoot excellent.

If you're budget is $4,000 and don't NEED custom then go with an Accuracy International AT. Shop around and you can get them even cheaper. Smiths won't need your rifle for weeks or months spin you up a barrel as they are simple to do. Also barrel swaps can be done with just a hex key in minutes.

I will throw another vote for HORIZONFIREARMS. I have a 6 creedmoor that is by far the best rifle I have. I also am getting everything ready for Derrick to build a 280ai off my dads old Winchester.

I saw a few of these, I'd jump all over them if I was wanting a 6.5.

He built a rifle for me this spring and will be my go to next time. I've never handled a horizon but they they have a great following here.

You said you are east of the metroplex. If you are interested you are welcome to check out my rifle built by Scott.

I believe Longshot Rifles had to close up. Chris built a VERY nice 7mmWSM but it was about 8 years ago. Is he back building?
