I made the decision to not hunt our place this year because it has been over hunted in my opinion. It's a family place and I'm fine with every family getting a deer....or two....or three, but it takes a toll on the herd. We filled feeders as we always do several weeks ago and I hope it's enough supplement to keep a healthy herd around (that and all of the rain we've had this year). A mutual neighbor has a spot a few miles down the road that, to his knowledge, hasn't been hunted in over 20 years. Neighbors to the east and west had this guy on camera pre and post rut last year....and guess you is nestled in between the two properties? I walked the 66 acres and lots of sign already. Tracks are scarce with all of the grass and the 3" of rain.
I put out a camera today and while I was out there, I jumped 3 does....it has the beginnings of a good year. It's a little late in the year and better late than never.
