Came back to the house this afternoon, closed the gate and drove the 150 yards to the house. The oaks in front of the house have started dropping acorns, and we'll often see deer eating them at all hours. Well, here it is broad open daylight and our 6 point that we call 'the yard buck' was eating his fill of acorns. Used to be that he'd run off, but he doesn't even bother any more. Just stood at 30 yards and watched me drive by. I looked him over and he looked me over. Apparently, my reputation as a great shot and mighty hunter has taken a hit amongst the local deer herd.
He's still out there.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

LOL, last year after deer season, I had to shoo away deer from the feeder in order to fill it. No respect at all!

There is a small group does that have bedded less than 50 yards from our cabin for years. They will follow me feeder to feeder when I fill them, waiting for me to push the test button.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Deer season has started. Time to teach the herd a lesson, methinks.

I'm going to have to change the policy on my place. "NO SHOOTING CLOSE TO CAMP" has been the rule but as of the last 2 years I guess the deer have figured this out. They stay on the edge of the woods of the 1.7 acre camp area. When somebody spills some corn or throws out some old produce here they come. It started out with 3 up close and has now grown to 7. I've never seen these deer on a game cam away from our camp site. Of course the grass is greener up close to the camp, lol...
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

One of the wives of a group I hunted with shot a nice 8 point one morning just outside of camp. She said within just a couple of minutes of us heading out to our stands he was walking through camp, between trailers and trucks eating spilled corn. She found a 243 that her hubby left and one loose shell. He was about 80 yards from camp when she shot him. Then had to wait until her hubby came back from his (unsuccessful) hunt and told him to clean it. His answer.....'Yes, dear'

deer can pattern people... On old lease, no one was seen bucks, few does, twas buck only... Had been sitting in nice cosy stand, out of the wind & light drizzles... Last couple days of hunt... back ta caveman days... Eased down ta slew, spooked jumping few high spots... Spoiled some ducks... Frooze in tracks eyes panning next dry spot... Twigs moved & nice mature buck stood up looked my way & bolted... Was using eyes & ears checking its front with slight breeze behind & alarm of ducks ta its advantage... Next day entered from side, got with in range for 30-30 a 40 yrd shot.... Tree blown over, propped rifle against, clleared dead leaves around feet for silance... Looked up,, buck 30 yrds away getting a drink, lifted head & eased behind thick stuff before i could shoulder rifle... Only two bucks seen that year... with all me high-tech , left me pard ol Kentucky at house... Some times the deer wins...

These stories are too funny! All the effort, all the work, all the stalking and playing the wind and deer walk up in the yard, make eye contact and go about what they were doing. I'm trying to get my doe herd to feel the same way about me, but it will backfire on the decent buck that tries it.
