It's a different hunt for sure. It's not a hunt you would expect anywhere in the states. Got to chill and roll with the flow. I think the big thing is finding a good guide.I will go back next year.

Dadsaid I'm sorry but i'm going to keep the outfitters a little quiet for a few years. This guy is only word of mouth and his prices are less than half of anywhere I've seen. I actually found out sitting next to a guy on a plane home from working. I'm afraid if the word gets out it will make it more expensive and harder for me to book.

Great buck for sure! He's gonna be hard to top, but it will sure be fun trying. Congrats to all of you on a great trip, and thanks for sharing the pics. I never get tired of looking at big mule deer bucks.

Not yet but that one added word fit what almost everyone said to me who has hunted with them up there. Most will never go back and had several tell they left after the first day.

What are most people upset about when they hunt on a reservation? I have thought about it before and was thinking about hunting on apache land next year for mule deer. Is it a customer service thing? canned hunt? any thoughts would be helpful.

I believe "firewater" is the common denominator

No, just a whole different world and regulations. Your recourse is no existent.

Even in the states you aren't in the states when in Res land.

Yes it("firewater") is a big part of it. The fact their time schedule and yours might not workout just like you wanted it to is also part of it. They might want to start your hunt at mid-morning if they even show up at all. What you said about the different world and regulations is true, but you can find the good guides/outfitters from time to time with a lot of phone calls. Had a buddy who hunted White Apache for 2 years after waiting a long time to get a hunt. Had a really good guide who actually hunted and new how to hunt the second year. He booked a 3 yr and specified the same guide the year before or he would not hunt. They told him it was a done deal. He even spoke with the chief and shook his hand on agreement. Got the chiefs phone numbers. When he returned for year 3, they had him with a different guide. He balked and they said his preference guide was booked already. He called the chief and it was worked out over the phone. He went on to kill his biggest elk to date. The right guide and you will have a great hunt at the right location. They also have different management practices, seasons and bag limits. You might be hunting for a trophy that does not exist or was killed before the "season" started.
