Keep the dog but no more soccer games period. A good hunting dog would have been locked in on the deer for sure. The girl is okay and the parents are cool so let Blue be Blue. I'd have been upset if you forced me to go to a soccer game too. He was just saying Get out of my face, I'm busy!

I'm sorry to hear this. I know that a dog is a hard piece of the family to replace, but in time it can be done.

I thought it had blown over but they finally called me today. Just dropped him off at the shelter for quarantine. Kind of funny, since it has already been 6 days, he only has to stay until Saturday.

Dang, I didn't think they would make you quarantine him at the shelter. The county I live in will let you quarantine at home, if they are current on rabies.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

They asked if we had other animals and since my wife has a cat they said he has to either go there or to a vet. So I just took him there. They are also going to neuter him there.

Hate to see this thread. Glad the girl is ok. Hope it all works out. Neutering should help. Most articles about cryptorchidism mention a greater chance of behavior and aggression problems.

So are they neutering the dog or the cat?

Bad spot to be in but with my kids being wild and their friends being at my house all the time, I'd have to get rid of my dog first time she bit anyone. Hope this isn't the case with your pup.

I have hunted with Blue. Blue is a good dog and frankly I am very surprised to hear he bit anyone. I knew Blue had a retained testicle, but I assume from the post he was never neutered. Every article and book you read on cryptorchid dogs mentions in some form them possibly to likely developing aggression problems. Blue is old enough now that he needs to be neutered anyway. Between keeping him away from soccer games and other places with loud or excited kids and having him neutered, I predict Blue will never be a problem again. http://www.askavetquestion.com/cryptorchidism.php"Behavioral problems: Dogs with cryptorchidism will often have more testosterone related behavior issues than regular dogs. We believe this is because the retained testicle has more blood supply because it is at a higher temperature when it is in the abdomen. This means you may see an increase in aggression, urinating on things, mounting things, etc."

I understand this is a crowd that loves their dogs, but no dog should ever bite a child. My son was two years old when he was bitten was bitten his grandmother's fat, lazy lab that apparently didn't like how close he got to his Milk Bone biscuit. A surgeon at Children's Hospital sewed him up and the scar looked small when he was small. Scars grow at the same rate as kids, so now the scar on his cheek is over 1 1/4" long. That little girl will live with that bite the rest of her life.
I could never allow myself to let the dog make another "mistake", as some put it. You now own what the State of Texas considers a "dangerous" animal. There is both a civil and criminal risk to you if the dog bites again. Please keep that in mind.
Someone else said not to let your insurance company find out about the incident. I would suggest the opposite if you are planning on keeping the dog. Do you want to keep what you have worked so hard for? If so, a large umbrella liability policy should be in your future.

GOOD. Maybe that will settle him down some. I had Dash out with us Halloween while handing out candy to the neighbor kids and used him as an advocate. I kept him tight at heel next to my lawn chair and on short leash where they had to get by me to get to him. I made every kid that wanted to pet him, ask first. And gave every kid that asked, a short talk in how to ALWAYS approach pet dogs and to not pet loose or stray dogs. Always ask the dog's handler, move slowly, and speak softly no matter how many times they have pet the dog before. Several of the parents either made appreciative comments or looked as such. Dash was painted with halloween hair spray paint. Great big green lightning bolt on each side and black polka dogs all over. I want those kids respecting Dash and Dash socialized with those kids under my close watch.

So is this all settled up and behind y'all now Chris? So Blue and you can get on with hunting season. I'm Deer hunting mostly early season and doubt I will get in a long road trip this year, but lets get the dogs out for a more local hunt or two later this season for whatever.

Sorry for the delayed response. That's awesome about Dash on Halloween.
All settled as far as I know. The parents are very cool and there's no indication they'll pursue civil action. Definitely ready for hunting season. I can't wait to get him in the field and put this all behind us. Being in the academy really has my time taken up. Wanted to get to Oklahoma on the 14th for the opener but we've got training. We get 5 days off for Thanksgiving though and I planned on going somewhere to camp/hunt. Any suggestions? Definitely need to get the dogs together for a hunt.
