Looking to get a hand held gps that I can use on my trip to Colorado next month. I want to be able to use the SD card to keep off private land.

The Garmin GPSMAP 60 is kind of the gold standard. You can get various models: 60 - the original 60C - color 60CS - color with extra sensitive antenna 60CSX - color, sensitive antenna, and expandable memory
If it is in your budget, get the 60CSX. You can find them used in good condition on ebay for around $200.

Garmin Monatana 650t. Had the 60csx, the Montana is light years ahead of it imo but it is twice the price. I like being able to overlap two-three maps on it at once. Plus the satellite imagery is perfect for scouting areas while in the field. I believe both are compatible with the software for private landowners.

I have the Garmin Oregon which is a great. You can find converters for USGS topo maps which give you satellite maps. Cabela's currently has the Oregon 600 on sale for $249.
