A friend and I were once told to apply for as many draw hunts as humanly possible to build up loyalty points. Last year, in his first year of applying for draw hunts he was drawn 3 times!! I have been applying for four years and still nothing. This year I was 0-50, the system is totally random right? Points, smoints, anyone else try building up loyalty points only to see a first or second year person get drawn like donuts rolling out at a krispy kream.
I must have pissed someone off in TPWD, I'm like 0 for 125 at this point. Hope my donations lead to a cure for CWD.

Yep it seem if you get picked once you'll be drawn for multiple hunts in the same year. It makes no sense either, almost like its been predetermined who will win before the draw has taken place. Last year I won twice for archery and this year zero.

Some days chicken, some days feathers. The more folks that apply, the less the points will count. I can't complain though. I've drawn some great hunts in the past.

Internet has killed the public hunt draw success.

I'm going to keep trying, it's cheap enough. I've never been drawn so I can't say that loyalty points help or hurt.

I think the new system of allowing multiple entries per hunt category is hurting more than using the internet.
On the hunts I've been drawn for the loyalty points ranged from 3 to 24.
FYI, you only get one loyalty point per hunt category per year.

I agree with that too. I also heard a rumor that all nonresidents can apply and have the same odds as us Texans do at winning? Please correct me if I am wrong. Also, another rumor I heard is that we don't get the same treatment when applying in other states? If this is actually true then why do we not get a better percentage rate like all the other residents in their home state?

Yes, I believe you are correct. Since the hunts are taking place on STATE land I don't think nonresidents should be eligible to hunt. That said, I've only seen a nonresident hunting on a TPWD public hunt once. Also, another rumor I heard is that we don't get the same treatment when applying in other states? If this is actually true then why do we not get a better percentage rate like all the other residents in their home state?
Yes, also true in nearly every western state where the vast majority of hunting takes place on FEDERAL land. While I agree that residents should receive the majority of permits some states like Oregon only allow 2% of permits to go to nonresidents which I think is pathetic and greedy. Same in NM which only gives 6% of permits to unguided nonresidents. I wish the Feds would stand up to these heavy handed greedy state policies and threaten to stop hunting on federal lands if those states don't agree to give nonresidents their fair share of permits.

Been putting in for a few years now with family. 2 names per card. Uncle and I have 15 average loyalty points on gun deer either sex, and 12 average on antlerless and the preference points just keep growing with no luck.

A friend put in for 60 hunts with zero points and got drawn for nothing. I've got 2 points and didn't get drawn either.

Theoretically, each loyalty point gets your name put in the pot that many times per hunt category. If you enter the Gun hunt Either sex for Deer and have three points in that category then you have three chances of winning. Hope that helps.
Don't talk the talk if you didn't walk the walk.

I tried for 5 years in a row, always put my name and my dads name in. I always chose place with better odds and I never got picked so I just quit doing it. APH permit is a bargain though!
