Met some hog hunting buddies for a BBQ this weekend and after leaving, one of the fellas and his wife came home to find hogs eating on a fawn that had been previously wounded and that they were helping feed to get back to health. Sad story, but for those who don't know about hog carnivory, here is a fine example. Here is the text from the Youtube post. FYI, the video contains foul language. Published on Oct 18, 2015 Wife and I were coming home last night from a BBQ get together with other hog hunting friends(our house is in the middle of a large ranch) halfway in we see these hogs eyeball deep into this fawn carcas. They paid little attention to the high beams & running truck, bloodlust i guess? Just so happened to be a fawn that got attacked about 2 weeks ago by what we assumed was coyotes. She had a big flap of skin ripped from her neck & right front leg but was doing fine other than that & she was showing improvement everyday when she showed up with momma to eat. The wife & I were pissed to say the least. Luckily at our hog hunting get together we had some show & tell goodies with us so I was able to dish out swift justice. I used an open sighted Marlin guide gun/big loop 45-70 hand loaded with 300gr Barnes TSX. First shot was a double, front sow got a lung shot, passed thru to second hog & hit her in the neck. Follow up shot was hit a little further back than I would have liked but both were fatal shots for both pigs. Wifey did not care for blood trailing in such thick brush late at night. Both were easily recovered next morning, 1 by buzzards & 1 by my trusty mutt that some jerk ditched on my road a few years back. I gave him the last blood drop I found & he ran right to her floating in my stock tank in less than a minute. Pup is full of his favorite treats sprawled out on HIS leather couch. RIP little fawn. I've heard they'll eat full grown live cow stuck in the mud. The first pig I ever killed with a bow I stumbled on in the dark eating what I assumed was the maggots out of a dead cow..

Last seen down in the hollows of OSBWMA tis what they say... Tried making a movie, Saquatch vs Big Tooth ta show the horror.. Of a giant hog, grinnen from ear ta ear.. Chasing down all the deer.. Spreading terror near & far to the hunters sorrow... The only thing that stops em tis the zombie bullets ... Their on sale, but be gone before ya knows it.. Stay safe out thar... When your wondering about... Still have me scare... If ya have a dought...

The first feral pig I ever killed, in about '83, was a big boar carrying a dead doe in its mouth. At first sight my initial thought was, "bear?" I didn't know a thing about them, that was the first one I'd ever seen. I figured a .25-06 in his ear hole would ruin his day. It did.

They will eat another hog that has been put down I believe. n Yep. I shot one at dusk and didn't want to track it in the dark. I could hear the hogs fighting later that night, since they were fairly close to our cabin. Next morning I tracked it to a spot with blood and fur only. JR

Hogs ate this Donkey that I dumped on our property. It had been hit on the highway and dispatched once we determined it wouldn’t live. I assumed the Buzzards and Coyotes would take of it, but the Hogs found it that evening (as evidenced by the numerous tracks around it). Literally NO Coyote tracks that I could find and Buzzards don’t feed at night. Most folks know…hogs will take advantage of carrion, they are opportunistic feeders, but many would be surprised to learn they are predatory sometimes as well….as your video illustrates. Nice shooting BTW. Smart of you to wait until they ‘lined up’.

I have always enjoyed reading posts about ethical killing of hogs, not taking questionable shots. They are pests and I do not care if I kill or injure them. Not one will ever get a pass

Hogs where I trap em regularly eat the leftovers after I take back straps and bone out the hams and shoulders...Usually leave the skin/shields of bigger hogs.

Oh yea, they clean up our gut piles for us pretty quickly. and up to now it has been pigs they are cleaning up, fur and all. If you scout around you can find a leg or two.

On that note, couple years ago I'd just shot a deer. I always stay in the stand for 10 to 15 minutes even if I can see them laying there, ya' just never know. Anyway, while I'm sitting there after shooting the deer a pig walked out, so I shot it too. Field dressed them both and left a pretty good size gut-pile I planned on hunting coyotes over that evening. I ran the deer and pig to town for processing, wasn't gone but about an hour and a half. When I got back the gut pile was completely gone. Nothing left but a big wet spot. I should have iced the bodies and gotten back in the stand!

The only thing a pig won't eat is a pepper, anything else is on the menu for them. I tried giving them pumpkins left over from Halloween and they wouldn't touch them. They sat there for over a month until they dried up and withered away. Hogs were at that feeder just about every night and would trample the pumpkins looking for the last little kernels of corn but never touched the pumpkins.

Two years I have tried pumpkins. Nothing ate them, not hogs, not rabbits, not coons, and not squirrels.
