My wife and I are about 60% sure we will be partaking in 3rd rifle season (starts 10/31) up north of Durango.

I think we need a Sat Phone as when we were up there in June, there was no cell coverage.

Has anybody rented a Sat Phone online or in the Durango area and had a good experience?

Thanks

I used to rent from them to go on long overnight offshore fishing trips on my boat

Inreach is another option
You can blue tooth it through your cell phone and send texts. Or send texts directly through it

I just looked up InReach. That's really slick. The price seems pretty reasonable too.

I've rented from these folks a couple of times and have been pleased: Explorer Satellite Phones

I have an InReach, on the 25.00 a month plan. A little quirky, but works and is a heckuva lot cheaper than a sat phone.

Do you have the Explorer or the SE?

The one with GPS, even though I don't use it. I have on old Garmin for GPS. This is what I do with tech thingies - I only half learn how to use them, then spend years frustrated and cussing. I'm not what you'd call methodical.

I did see when I went into my InReach account that it had mapped out each road I drove on the lease. That was cool. Now if I could only figure out how to print it.

I bought one of the inReach Explorers this past spring for primary use while on my boat in Canada and Alaska. It works in all those areas without cell coverage and provides real peace of mind should something really bad should happen. It has a one-button SOS capability to a rescue center that is monitored 24/7. I plan to carry it with me during hunting season since I usually spend quite a bit of time out there alone during the week in an area with very spotty/no cell coverage.

It works very well, but it's not as user friendly as your iPhone. Nothing that the average bear can't deal with, just don't expect it to have the same ease of use. There are a number of videos on the DeLorme web site and You Tube that helped me to understand its many functions.
