Just ordered a Garmin Astro and a Pro 550 for the upcoming season. I used an Alpha last year but personally didn't prefer having my gps/ecollar in one unit.

Anyone using these collars?

I have the Pro 550 and really like it. I had a G3 model before that which ended up in the water so I tried Dogtra. Just couldn't get used to it so I bought the 550. Glad I did too.

I run two collars.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I run two collars. She wears a pink on for every day use with her tags on it and and camo collar for hunting.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

I am about to buy an alpha so I'm interested in hearing your opinion. Why didn't you like the combo?

The alpha was great mostly. I just didn't like having just it for around the house, walks, just out running at the park, etc. Just wasn't practical for that imo.
My only other issue was twice on hunts, and I can't remember exactly what happened since it has been a year, somehow the sync or saved dog data on the handheld got deleted and then the correction wouldn't work until I got the dog back to me and re synced everything. Was probably me screwing up the touchscreen without realizing it but either way, it sucked.
