Can't post pics now but I picked this rifle up recently and I'm confused. It is a bdl style, black tip, 22" sporter barrel. Instead of the caliber stamped into the barrel it is laser etched ".264 win mag". Did Remington ever do this? Would like to know if this is a factory rifle or if it has been altered.

A 22" .264 barrel sounds most definitely altered.

What they said.

Pretty sure there would be more than just the chambering on the barrel. "Remington" and safety writing. Plus anything with the name Win Mag in the name should have a 26" barrel IMHO. Unless you're Tikka then you cut the barrel too short from the factory bang

Like the others sounds like a rebarrel and that round really needs a 26 inch barrel. There were several rifles back in the day that had 24 inch barrels but do not know of one with a 22 inch barrel. That is gonna have some muzzle blast but accuracy may still be very good,

Alright guys, another kicker..the barrel has the "read instructions free from Remington arms before use Lexington NY blah blah " statement that all the others have. Also forgot to mention it has holes for iron sites, identical to other factory 700s. Hope this helps. I have never seen an aftermarket barrel like this.

Remington only made 700s in a 264WM for the Sendero I believe.

Nope.

They made them in some of the early BDL's and a lot of those were stainless/blued barrels that were stamped "stainless steel". Think they also did a small run of CDL's in recent years in 264 as well.

Never seen a factory one lazer etched or in 22' though.

Know they made a few other versions BDL, Classic, CDL and sender, do not remember any with 22 inch barrels, but here could have been a limited run I am not familiar with. Could also be one from the custom shop

Thanks guys, I guess I have a unicorn on my hands. Aside from that as long as it shoots good it's gunna make a hell of a carry rifle. Alotta punch in a little package.

Remington has made a few over the years...but none with a 22 inch barrel...most had 24 inch barrels, except for the present day Sendero, and CDLs....
