SO ....I picked up a box of 100 count Berger VLD in 140 grain 6.5x55. I take one out and ,Oh my that mean "Ogive" is serious. I'm wondering if anyone here has had any issues with bullet seating and crimping with that /this type of bullet using Lee Or RCBS dies? (The Only option ?I've found is Redding dies with a special micro seater made especially for. I'm not wanting to spend $150 for the dies...Ill just use different bullet ...IF I HAVE TOO!

Anyone loaded any of these?

A lot of reloaders use the Bergers. RCBS makes a seating stem for the VLD pointed bullets have not checked on if Lee does or not.

Many of not most do not crimp bullets for a bolt action. .002 - .004 Neck Tension will hold them in place.

You will read these bullets like to be seated into the lands and they do for accuracy but good accuracy can be found most of the time not into the lands. Berger recommends into the lands but often that does not allow for using the magazine. If that is your case try .040 or more off the lands.

Redding makes a vld seating stem as well.

So far my rcbs dies work fine with nothing added. I'd follow bergers recommended seating depth test.

I loaded some 168 VLDs yesterday. Shot around 1/2 inch using standard lee dies and simply loading to recommended length.

I've found accuracy as far as .100 off the rifling with these in a .260. As long as you're not running super high neck tension you can get away without the VLD seating stem

Thanking you guys for the responses. I have Lee and RCBS dies for the 6.5x55,I simply want to load the 140gr VLD Hunters for well hunting of course, for our Texas Whitetail and Feral Hogs! I was looking for reload info at Berger site and seen there video about the issue with the VLD Ogive and no seating properly and of course they nod towards the Redding Micrometer with The VLD seating stem. I was up at 3am this morning and found Dies and Micrometer at Brownells for $90 shipped. I may try to load a few with the RCBS Dies and some standard loads with H4350 to see how they do.Before I make the plunge on the $90!

PS: Also I sent a note to Berger Tech Support, and they already answered and sent two PDF files with info to help out. I gotta give PROPS(respect) to a company that's that quick and responsive.
