Anyone ever seen a Blue/Bobwhite cross? Saw this about 12 yrs ago and again this yr. Brown head, white top notch, type feathers (scales) tips are brown. Just curious.

Blobs--you see them occasionally. Very rare.

Same here.

I've seen them before usually in places where there are ample populations of both.

No. Feathers were like a blue, but tips were brown. Head was brown. White top notch. Will try to post a pic later.

Post from 2013. Lots of guys saying blues but they sure look hybrid to me. Biologist thought hybrid too.

Neat looking lil fellers..

Below is Dr. Hernandez's answer to the question.

"Yes, hybridization between blues and bobs has been reported in the literature. Their occurrence is rare but does seems to happen. Rates of occurrence of “blobs” range from 1-70 blobs for every 1,000 bobwhites sampled"

When you see a blob you will no it. It clearly is not a bob or a blue. Usually they have a bit of a topknot. I've also seen other quail species hybrids but they were in captivity and pen raised.

I know a guy named Jonesy. He's known in Kentucky. I was talking to him and he said he uses these birds to train with. Said they stick like bobwhites, but don't require the conditioning that bobwhite require and will get up and flush like a blue quail. Said they're great for training.

Saw a blob on the way to deer stand this afternoon. Top of body was a blue, from the wings down marks and feathers of a bobwhite. Was running along fence row and in the road with 4 other bobwhite.
Ranch in Jim Hogg county. Sorry, no pics

In over 25 years of quail hunting, my hunting buddies and I have shot maybe 6 between us. Any where from north of Big Spring to west of Andrews. None of them looked exactly the same but you could tell that they were crosses. One of the ranches we hunted on the land owner had a whole covey of them that came up to the house every day and fed on the back porch.
