My truck is near packed. Should finish that up tomorrow. In exactly one week I will head out. It is a 24 hr drive and I will take my time. Packing my back pack and checking all the necessities along the way. If I don't get lost, I'll see you fellas in Colorado! Safe travels for all!

Be safe. Stop when you're tired. Good hunting.

I have a feeling I'll be off for a few days before the hunt. It's slow enough that they're limiting our time on jobs to spread the work around, and I'm 4 days into a 2 week stretch. So, that should give me plenty of flexibility on leaving and being able to convoy with the guys passing through.

Sneaky, We (Jsims, my dad, and I) are planning to stay in San Angelo on Wednesday night and get up Thursday morning to head out from there. I'll check with them, but maybe you could meet up with us maybe in Sweetwater Thursday morning sometime for the convoy?

Dennis, is that bear license over the counter also? Cost? I got nervous about the hunter's safety cert. after my son questioned it. Can't remember what you guys said since I KNEW I was way too old. CO grandfathers in up to 1949! Ohio is much later. Anyway I called ODNR and a very nice lady found my hunters safety certificate I got with son Mark in 1981. Mark was 9! She will send it out to me soon!

No they don't!! Joe, you should have asked if they could certify you (they will print it on all your tags from here on out) may have to go in person though, IDR.

The bear tag is OTC, it is the Bear tag with "caps". Just means they give a total sum of tags for each unit, but to qualify (which y'all do), you have to have 1st bought/have a big game license for the same unit. They are sold 1st come 1st serve until gone.

Totally different tag than the draw tags, with the caps tag, you can hunt all 3 of the big game seasons for bear, so if you didn't kill one during 1st, you could still hunt for bear the following seasons.

iirc, it is on page 59 of the hunting brochure. Also can read it online.

Sorry Joe, the cost is $351 this year, went up since the one I got 2 years ago.

I am really considering it primarily because of the temps right now. Bear will be packing on fat 24/7 getting ready for their winter "break", until their clock says it's time...

Just looked, Unit 71 still has 278 tags left. You can call and buy over the phone (they will give you a number to give to the license agent to print the tag, like at walmart), you can buy directly from an agent, or get it through the mail.

Joe, all I know about the bear hunting up there is that we see a LOT of sign but never any bears.

That's really weird. We see them on a very regular basis at my dads house but he is about 2,000 ft lower in elevation.

Looks like the forecast for Dolores is going to be in the mid to high 60s for the highs and low 40s for the lows.

There's a bunch up there. I think the timing is just too close to hibernation on this hunt.

Looks like my brother may have to back out, He is still trying but he had a mechanic quit and they fired the other two under him. So I may be heading up alone, or rendevous with the rest of you guys wagon training it up there. That is if I get of this boat! Lmbo, the guy that was supposed to replace me got sent to another job, so now my boss is scrambling. I told him if I miss this hunt I still have a gun and mean to put something on my wall, it will be elk or his hide!
