I put a new stand up in an area I have not been able to hunt in the past 5 years that I have owned my land. So I am naturally pretty excited about what the location will produce

The issue is that due to the terrain and location of the stand I am going to have to walk right by the feeder and general area in order to get to it. A detour would not only take a very long time but the trail would be dangerous to walk after dark due to the rocky canyon it would go through.

the question is, what can I do to prevent from leaving my scent on the way in? A buddy suggested using fox urine.
can I just spray the bottom of my boots with some cover scent before I walk through?

Don't worry about it. Nothing you can do to eliminate your scent. Take the quickest (and safest) route to your stand and hunt. You might avoid morning hunts if your deer are feeding early a.m.

We have one like that also, we only hunt it in the evenings.

Agree, you will never totally remove your scent but a good pair of rubber boots with a spraying of scent eliminator helps. I have been using Dead downwind for a few years and I know it doesn't hurt.

I've done that for several years and it never seems to bother the deer at all. I do try to get there at least 30 minutes before the feeder goes off. I've killed some nice bucks under the feeder in the past.

the stand will be great for morning hunts so I'd better just get there early.
in the few years I have had the land, I have only spooked deer off before sunrise once or twice. Most of the time they show up a few minutes after the feeder goes off. The place is small and I have not found bedding areas which makes me think they bed down on adjoining ranches and walk in. Neither of the ranches to either side of me are hunted and as far as I know no feeding is taking place.

I always spray coon urine on my boots anytime I am walking to a stand and spray down my clothes with Dead Downwind scent eliminator. Always helps to be extra careful.

I have to cross or walk past one of my feeders to get into my area of the lease. I also have to walk past my bow feeder to get to my ladder stand. Get there early so the scent has time to dissipate and not be as strong.

X;s 2, or go extra early in the am as you mentioned. If anything, it will give your other spot a rest.

up I jumped a deer 20 yards from my stand Saturday morning walking in. Saw about 20 deer that morning, including 2 within 8 yards and 3 more within 30.

Take corn with you and put it out as you walk past the feeder with your shooting range everytime you go, even if you are not hunting it.

i do keep a couple peanut butter jars with lids handy to carry corn to the stand in.
I bet the apple scented corn dropped behind me on the way in would help.

I've had deer graze right over the track I had made across a food plot getting to my stand and they never showed any alarm, so I don't worry about the bottom of my boots. However, when walking in to an area I always make sure I don't rub against any vegetation. Even that might be unnecessary, but it is easy to do.

I have watched deer follow the exact trail I walked sniffing the ground like they were tracking me. Sometimes it spooks them, sometimes not. I have had hogs come in to hand thrown corn and spook almose immediately when they crossed the path I walked. This was on mowed sendero's. These deer see little human activity/interaction with scent.

Deer from the property we leased for many years before this saw human activity a lot and therefore human scent wasn't uncommon and they never reacted much at all to human scent, even when they were down wind. Doesn't mean they couldn't smell it, just means it didn't alarm them as being out of the ordinary.
