My wife and I are heading to Sonora TX in two weeks to hunt with Muley Mike and we are wondering if some of you could suggest some things to stop and see along the way. We live in Tyler, so there are several options on which way to get there. The only thing we've found so for is the Caverns in Sonora.
Anything and everything is interesting to us. We have all day to get there and its supposed to be a 7 hour drive each way.
Thank you, Eddie & Karen

Largest Bat cave at Rocksprings. Wife will love that!

Fredericksburg is cool but will eat up to much time on a road trip like that. Enchanted rock is a giant rock and rather boring especially since you will see way more rocks on your hunting trip.

Go see Fort McKavett. Probably the best restored of the old frontier forts. It's NE of Sonora about 30 or 40 minutes.

If you love crowds and waiting in line listen to the advice of others and go to Fredericksburg.

My place is just outside Fbg. and I avoid town like the plague. Don't know your route, but Sideoats Cafe in Menard is a very good sandwich/soup with very good pies.
Our very first "blended family" camping was at Caverns of Sonora, many moons ago.
Have a good hunt.

If you are near Fredricksburg, make a side trip to Luckenbach. Wife is sure to find something to see/buy.

go a day early and spend a night in Fredricksburg. We go there 3-4 times a year for a weekend. Your wife will love it and it is a great place to hang out. Try the Silver Creek restaurant on main street - live music under a huge tree -

Thank you, I forgot to mention that my wife hates shopping. Even when we are on vacation and we wonder into a tourist place to find a souvenir, she just wants to get out of there as fast as possible and I'm the one forcing her to at least OK what I get.

Lum's Bar-B-Q in Junction is good, if you need a lunch stop. Take the main exit (Valero), turn left to go under the highway and it will be on your right in about a mile. Yeah, I know all of my suggestions involve food.

Head on west, go to Balmorhea, Ft Davis, back to Alpine, Dryden and then back to Sonora. You will see parts of Texas most Texans will never have seen in their lifetime.

Stop off in Fredricksburg. Some interesting shops there but pricey. Good food too. I'd skip Fredericksburg and go to Enchanted Rock. Hondo's burgers are gooooood. Hilda's chips, salsa and tortilla are awesome!!!

Go to Krause Springs in Spicewood if you want to camp one night, if not go to Gruene and stay at a bed and breakfast and twirl your wife around Gruene hall one night and take her out to eat at the Grismill. If you are a real adventurer, go spend a day trip in Acuna.
