Had a chance to shoot my new Glock G40 today. Using the Modular Optic System (MOS), I mounted a Burris Fastfire III. I purchased the G40 for whitetail and hog hunting here in Texas Hill Country. I enjoyed the 8 inch site radius prior to mounting the FastFire. With and without the Fastfire III I found the G40 to be very accurate on steel plates at 40 yards. Felt recoil was very pleasant. The pistol came with 4 mounting plates (MOS), 4 back straps and 3 magazines.

I have hunted with my G20 with a 6.5" lone wolf barrel and it will shoot! No deer with it but several pigs. I have one of those in stock and on here for sale, but I might keep it.

Sir that is a sharp looking piece right there. We bought my little brother a long action 9mm glock a few years ago as a college graduation present, I need a G40 to one up him now.

Are you happy with the FastFire III or would you recommend trying a different optic?

Are you happy with the FastFire III or would you recommend trying a different optic? I like the Fast Fire III, great quality and easy to use. With that being said, it takes getting used to. The advantage of the longer sight radius with the G40 is lost when using this type of sight (red dot). Not sure if It will be the best for hunting. It seems difficult to hold the red dot still for the accuracy I will want without using some type of stable rest. On the other hand it is great for fast sight acquisition. Perhaps best for shooting steel targets. Fortunately, the G40 MOS system allows me to remove and mount fairly quickly. I can simply remove the plate it is mounted to and use the front and rear sight for hunting.

I finally shot my G40 in 10mm yesterday! It is a freakin' awesome pistol. The heaviness of the pistol really tames the recoil of the 10mm. I was sighting it in and it was shooting very well. I knew when one went outside of the group that it was me and not the pistol or the ammo.

Are you happy with the FastFire III or would you recommend trying a different optic? I have the FF3 mounted on top of a 460XVR. It's been up there for probably 200 rounds and still works great. It is a little awkward to use, but once you get use to it all is well and it's very fast.

BTW- I got my first kill with my G40 this weekend. Sure, it was only a rabbit. But it was from about 30 yards at night with my Surefire mounted on it. Running rabbit and shot 1 round just in front of it. This froze it, and I send the second round was perfect and destroyed it. It opened the rabbit up and everything fell out.
