About the lack of Opening Bow Weekend buck harvest pics? I fully expected to see lots and don't think I've seen but one maybe two so far. Seen more hog harvest pics so far. Is it a matter of selectivity early on or just not seeing many bucks - what say the hunters out there in the stands????

I'm being selective. I'm after one buck. I actually saw him yesterday, but not close enough for a shot.

Activity has been slow for a lot of guys on stand. Late afternoon has been best cut short.

I just decided to stay at home and get some rest this weekend. Not in any hurry since nobody else hunts during archery season on our place.

Lot of really good deer to choose from this year, so most hunters are not going to tag out early when they know chances are really good this year to get a great buck.

I took a cull yesterday evening. Nothing worthy of a photo. We haven't seen any shooters yet, and we usually don't until the rut gets closer. In Leon county.

Other thing is it is really green out there, at least in north Texas. Despite the lack of good rain since May around the metro mess, there is plenty of green out there still. I really noticed it on the way home from the lease today, after getting skunked in the stand Saturday and this am. Deer are still mostly nocturnal and with the abundant food all around don't need to come to the feeders just yet.

Hoping in a couple weeks it will be a little different the next time I get up there.

Acorns are everywhere in my county right now and deer are on them pretty good. Still getting young bucks and does at the corn, but light activity. As far as "green", look st it close, it is dried out and lacks nutritional value for the most part, but acorns are in high demand. I think the majority of bucks aren't getting exposure simply because they don't have too right now, what motivation is there to be moving around in the daytime much? I'd bet if you are fortunate to have a good food plot growing right now with tender food source, you'd likely cross paths with a mature buck, much more than over a feeder (corn)

Still seeing older bucks together here, wait until rut starts getting closer, I bet harvest go up, as the deer begin to move more.

I saw a young 8 pt cruising yesterday while driving our place. The young deer start moving early.

sums it up for us. Feeder hunting is tough for us right now but i still saw a fair amount of deer just nowhere close to the feeders. Getting em in bow range wont be easy for us. I wouldnt be concerned the deer are still there just harder to pattern

Realizing the growth out there is dry and not huge nutritional value, whether it's acorns or natural for a or something, deer don't need to hit the feeders right now.

Case in point, I threw a bag of corn out yesterday at two different feeders, and even though both feeders were hit overnight by deer and a hog at one, neither was even half way cleaned up by the animals. Couldn't believe the hog didn't clean out that feeder, but there was a lot of corn on the ground still this am. Like said above, the deer just don't need to hit the feeders right now. Hoping my food plot gets some rain later this week and springs up some fresh green up

We left a lot 4 and 5 year-olds last year hoping to see them come around this year, but nothing yet. We are going to have to wait them out.

I planted..saw plenty of deer though from the tractor seat and in my spare time, in true ETX fashion, I decided to shoot some tree rats for the skillet.

No concern at all. I saw alot of deer Saturday morning. Had five young bucks come in to my setup. Below is a picture of a 2 1/2 year old 8 point I let walk (and he was illegal anyway).

I went ahead and shot a spike. I used for the first time a NAP Killzone broadhead (my 17 year old son swears by them). Good grief - it was like opening up a blood spigot on that spike buck. He went about 30 yards and piled up.

I think East Texas is going to be good this season. One problem - it is DRY! My foodplots are NOT coming up!

Shot a nice hog this evening. A great opening weekend.

On camera, aside from the billion hogs, I have 3 possible shooters and one doe with her yearling still in spots. Only able to hunt Sunday morning.. watched the doe with yearling for nearly 2.5 hrs. nothing else

I have been hunting for a long time and has good as it's been to me, it's been "slow" about 80% of the time I have hunted. Think about all the time you put in on stand versus the times you actually have those great experiences and harvest a mature white tail. Patience Grasshopper.

I skunked this weekend, did not see a single deer during the daylight hours from where I was hunting. However, I went out Friday and Saturday nights to look for the hogs who are tearing stuff up and it seemed like I could not go 400 yards without seeing deer. Same fields I hunted during day. I guess they are just not moving in daylight much right now, or at least they weren't last weekend.

Or it could have been all of those very loud bows I heard in the local hunting club that sounded a hell of a lot like rifles... never heard such a loud bow or crossbow up close. I had one of the guys try to tell me it was squirrel season and that is what I heard, but I just cannot imagine how much of that squirrel is left after hitting it with a 30-06? Or how they could even see the thing in the first and last 30 minutes of legal hunting light... scratch

Morning hunts were much better than evenings for me. Much better. Yesterday morning and this morning I saw 7-8 bucks each morning with 3-7 does each set. Evening were more of 1-2 deer max with the heat returning.
