I'm buying a new gun this weekend, my decision has come down to a maxus or a new a5. Pros and cons on either of these guns? Let's keep it to these two guns. I don't want a sbe2 because I want a nice wood stock gun and berettas feel like a 2x4 to me.

between those two I'd pick an A5. You can't go wrong either way

Maxus is gas and A5 is inertia. The Maxus will have less recoil, but get dirty quicker. The A5 also is a more balanced gun due not having the heaving gas cylinder towards the front.

If recoil bothers you and if you shoot a lot of 3.5" shells, the gas (Maxus) may be the way to go.

A lot of young guys balk at the recoil and say it doesn't bother them.....might not now, but get a shoulder injury or get old and you will appreciate how the gas system takes away some of the recoil.

I've had the Browning Silver for ten years and it's basically the same gun as the Maxus. I've shot the Maxus, SX3 and the Silver.

Low recoil and up until last season shot every load I put through it. I shot it more last season than I ever have. It finally needed a full break down and cleaning. It's my go to dove gun.

I started using the new A5 last season for ducks and a little for dove.

The A5 does have a heavier recoil. At first it would not cycle very light cheap dove loads but have not had any issues this season. I think it just needed a little breaking in.

Cycles all duck loads I've put through it flawlessly.

Both guns shoulder really well and I think the hump back style fits me really well.

I have an old a5 inertia, love it. The new one is not like the old one where the barrel moves, my buddy just got one it's light easily to maneuver has the fiber optic as well as mid bead. Browning used benelli ejection systemas well as their own technology on that gun. I went w the cynergy bc I already shoot over under, I'd do the a5 any day it's a super nice gun.

I've got a maxus and my buddy has an a5. Love the maxus, the "heavy gas unit" in the fore-end makes it a super gun to swing. I shoot better with the maxus than any other gun I've owned. Neither it, or my buddy's a5 have had any problems, probably will just comedown to what feels good on your shoulder. Maxus all the way for me up

I decided on the wood stock a5. Felt great when I shouldered it, better than any other gun I picked up. Can't wait to shoot it.

Ditto. I bought a new A-5 2 years ago and it is a work of art. Definitely not your grandfather's humpback.

Nice gun.

Curious why the wood? Are you going to use it duck hunting?

I'm pretty easy on my stuff and have screwed up some wood on guns before.

Yes it will be my primary duck gun unless the weather is wet and nasty or I hunt the salt, I like the look and feel of a wood gun. My stoeger Just isn't a fun gun to shoot.

I wish I were easier on guns because I like wood too. My Remy 700 looks like I had it in Iraq with me.

Just bought an A5 this year. Absolutely love it. I did take out the mid bead, though.

Maxus for me, have shot both, I just liked the feel of the maxus better... And the hump back doesn't do it for me! Guess I'm the new generation that doesn't like the old style confused2

I like the style of the new A5, it's the recoil that's tough to deal with. No issue with dove loads but 3" high speed duck loads will rock your world!

IMO an adult male should not be complaining about the recoil from a semi-auto 12 guage. Far from punishing by any standard. I shoot a new style A5 and have never even noticed the recoil, and I'm not any tougher than anybody else.

10ga double...
note lack of sissy pad...

gas autos tend to shot softer than inertia autos...
the reason most Argentine outfitters use 20ga a390's.

If you are the average shooter recoil should not matter
IMO

I own a Belgium A5 and a Maxum sporting clays; however I have yet to shoot the Maxum, so I am unable to comment hammer
