You should have come to Abilene this past weekend, a lot of the same balloonists were here for the Abilene Balloon Festival.

There has been some construction from Snyder to Post all summer, but nothing that slowed us down to less than the posted speed limits in the construction areas. We don't go past Post so I can't help you from there on.

No help on the food in ABQ.

Way I went and came back last week. Construction wasn't a big deal

ABQ has lots of good restaurants. "The Frontier" across from UNM is good for breakfast. "El Pinto" is good for lunch/dinner.

thanks for the replies so far!!!

Wife called several chamber of commerce along the way today asking about construction and travel. All stated shouldn't be an issue.

wife isn't overly fond of NM style Mexican food (green or red chili's), so very open to other options. We will be at the Residence Inn, so breakfast will be covered (if they have it available early enough for the Balloon festival goers).

Born and raised in the Burque. Frontier has great breakfast burritos "get the #1 with Carne Adovada tell them easy on the hash browns". El Pinto is hands down the best authentic New Mexican food. Powdrells on Central is a little place with great barbeque. You got to eat at the Owl café on Eubank for a green chile cheeseburger. Last but certainly not least is Nick and Jimmy's "right off the freeway near balloon fiesta park has the best steak around, they have this oven that sears the meat holding in the juices. Dang now I'm hungry..... food

we stopped in to the Standard Diner on Central, great bacon wrapped meat loaf & mashed taters. It was featured on DDD several years back and they had a few signature dishes that were labeled DDD on the menu, the meat loaf was one.

also hit Cervantes on east Gibson, good New Mexico Mexican food, I don't remember what they called it but was a stewed pork in red chili's, the made into enchiladas, a bit spicy for the majority of our crew but I thought it was pretty dang good.

if you are ever going thru Muleshoe around meal time, Leal's Restaurant has some pretty good Tex-Mex, I had the Texas enchiladas, which are spicy ground beef enchiladas with jalapeno slices on top, re-fried beans and rice with a small salad. We were going to try Granddaddy's BBQ by a recommendation from a lady at a convenience store, but they had sold out by 2:00 and wouldn't have anything else ready before their dinner hours. Sure smelled good, might give it a try next time thru if around meal time.

Funny, I grew up in Albuquerque as well. The Powdrells lived down the street from me and I used to play with their kids.

PMK I just came through that route last month. The only construction that amounted to anything was from Snyder to I-20 and it was not bad at all. I don't know about restaurants all I ate was fast food.

Stop at the Billy the Kid museum in Ft. Sumner. There are lots of great antiques on display there. Staff is friendly and the price is right.

Thumb up for El Pinto too. They serve other things then New Mexico cuisine and your wife will really like the atmosphere there.
