So I'm getting the itch to buy another rifle. I really do have bad GAS ( gun acquisition syndrome)! I'm keeping my eye out for a used gun that peaks my interest or tossing the idea of ordering a new build to be done around Christmas if able. I'm not sure what I want though... What I already have is a .257wby (might sell or trade though it would take the right deal), .270 win, 270wsm, and a custom 300wsm. I'm thinking about either going bigger with something like a 28 nosler or 7RUM/STW in a heavier rifle or go with something smaller like a 22 creed/22-250 ackley or something in a 6.5. Just curious what you guys think. Thanks.

You have a bunch together-what do you want to use the new rifle for?

No idea haha. Just want something that falls a little more outside what I have. If I order another custom, it'll prob be for long range practice and fun shooting as much as hunting considering I have what I need to hunt most big game already.

Have had lots of fun with a 22-243 both on game and targets.

How far have you stretched that 22-243? Do you make brass from 223?

500 is as far as I have stretched out the 22-243 but it has more legs than that for sure. This one the brass is simple for just run Lapua 243 brass through the FL sizer die and brass is ready to go. Chamber has neck dimensions so no neck turning is required. With a 1:8 twist 27 inch Hart barrel 75 and 80gr bullets can be run to 3500fps but I keep them around 32 to 3300 and she runs well at that. The 90gr Bergers could use a little faster twist but shoot well at a little over 3200.

The 75gr Swift Sirocco is a beast slayer out of this rig. 75 and 80gr Berger target bullets have done well on hogs from 10 yards to over 300 yards. I think the thicker jacket of the target bullets helps then stay together for complete penetration at close range or longer range.

Some day I might put a longer range scope on it and take it to 1k but have other toys for reaching long.

Latest build is a CZ 527 in 6.5 Grendel, having lots of fun with that one now.

That sounds really tempting. I'm assuming recoil is next to nothing on that round. Can you see your hits on steel?

Rifle weighs 9.3lbs scoped and yes can see hits on rocks, haven't shot steel with it. Fun to watch the bang flop on yotes and hogs.

When this barrel wares out I might go with the 22 Creedmore for a replacement. Wonder if the ES on loads might ne a little closer than the 22-243, the way others report the 6.5 and 260 are.

ES Extreme Spread. Difference in fastest and lowest velocities of a given load. Generally the lower the extreme spread the less vertical dispersion you will have in groups and your long range dope will be more accurate.

Can neck down 6mm or 6.5mm Creedmoor brass or fireform 22-250 brass. The 22 Creedmoor is very similar to the much older 22-250AI. Different shoulder angle. IRRC 35 degrees instead of 40 degrees

Get something you will actually shoot, alot. Like 3-4000 rounds over then next year or two. All the middle class 6.5's fit this bill really well. 6.5 creed, 6.5x47 (surprise, surprise), and the 260 are all great choices for a rifle that is meant to be shot. Almost no recoil, cheap to reload, and great ballistics. 7mm-08 and 223 ackley also fit this bill as well.
