They both have great qualities but I like the 1 moa dot on the EOtech. Which would you choose and why? It's going on a 10.5 in 6.8SPC SBR and will be used for target shooting and hunting 200 yds or less.

I like Aimpoints for battery life...

Eotech are nice because they have some reticle, but most are not effective. Some people think there design blocks mores than aim points.

Don't think you can go wrong with either.

If I had the money I would be an aim point micro

I find I shoot the aimpoint better. Less stuff to distract you if firing quickly. Got both tho, cant really go wrong with either.

You may look at the sparc if you wanted a smaller unit without breaking the bank

EOtech for sure. +1 if you can add the 3x magnifier at some point. Best of both worlds.

Reason: I'm not certain on the game you're after but I'm assuming pigs or possibly deer, if pigs, I've shot both the aimpoint and the EOtech at them and feel that the target transition on the EOtech is more fluid and better if you're shooting both eyes open. The battery and scope housing on the aimpoint seems like its more intrusive to me if you shoot that way.

Thank you for your service!

Thanks for the info. You would think id have more experience with CCO and EOtech but I've been using an ACOG for the majority of my time in the Military. I think I shot a CCO twice.

I've got an Aimpoint T-1 on my 6.8. The new micro's are out I believe, I'd give them a look or the vortex version. Can't beat the vortex warranty and service. Just personal preference but I don't care for eotech.

I have both and prefer the aimpoint. The compm4 & 512 models is what I have, both on 556 AR's.

This one is tough, because I like both.

However I think they both have a unique role. Given the opportunity and what it would be used for I could go either way. Meaning:

For home defense, strictly close quarters, I would opt for EOTECH. Here's why. In the moment of high stress and tunnel vision, the donut is ideal for center mass and fast engagements. When met with this scenario they understand that we don't think as clearly as we would like to think we may, thus eluding to, wherever the donut is...is where the round will go. Then with the fine 1 MOA dot in the center, you would be able to focus in on a precise point. Not as effective as a traditional riflescope for that matter, but that is subject for another discussion.
For hunting, I think it is great for Turkey, maybe close hog hunting, but because of the donut, it is a little distracting out past 100 yards.

Aimpoint offers a 2 & 4 MOA dot. So the reticle is more clean, however personally I don't like it for CQB or home defense. The only reference point is the dot, there is nothing else there to draw the eye to the center of the reticle where the dot is.

I do like it for hog hunting and plinking say out to 100 - 200 yards. However I feel a lot of training would be needed in order to create muscle memory before I could use it for home defense.

So I think I've made my mind up to go with Aimpoint but now the Vortex 1x4 Viper PST has caught my eye. LOL. Too many good options out there.

Now you are cooking with peanut oil.

This is essentially a hybrid option of what you are previously entertaining.

On 1X, you can train your eye to use the Viper or any 1X-4X or what ever you choose, like an Aimpoint or EOTech, but then when you need magnification, you simply turn the power selector ring to the desired magnification and hone in on being precise, like an ACOG.

So now that I made my mind up and decided to get the Aimpoint for my 556 AR and Viper PST for my 6.8 when I get it. What are the pros and cons of the different reticles on the Vortex Viper PST? Ill be using mostly for hunting out to 200 yds.

Different reticles?

The PST 1-4, both use the same reticle with one exception...the subs

One is in MOA and the other in MRAD. Depending on your preference, you will have 1/2 MOA exposed turrets or .20 Mrad adjustments. Both match the reticle you chose to use.
But, it's not FFP. The subs are accurate on 4X.

Thanks for explaining that. I thought they were different reticles

No, only difference is one subtends MRAD (my personal preference) and the other subtends in MOA.

Other than that, the overall appeal at first glance is the same.
