I was on a management oryx hunt the first week of September and stayed in the lodge. Highly recommend that option if there is a room. Call the WMA and inquire. My hunt lasted less than an hour before my target showed up. Orxy was in the cooler that night and I left the next morning so didn't get a chance to really see many animals but I did see some nice looking deer, a big (175 ish lb) hog, and some exotics just driving around. Good luck. You drew an awesome place to hunt.

thanks 1riot1ranger for the input.
what compartment did you hunt? we will have me and another, we had 4 but 2 of them backed out due to medical, so just 2 of us. I have read that the north & west pastures would decent but the turkey was not as good. can you remember what some of the other guys around camp where saying about what they were seeing and which pastures.
thanks again for the input

I hunted the archery hunt last year. Had a blast got a management buck and a hog with my recurve. I hunted the north Turkey pasture. Hunted on top of hill near water trough. Saw lots of animals including some awesome bucks that were off limits. I stayed in rv park in town, but getting a bunkhouse spot would be good. Good luck and take a good camera. Saw most animals on top of hills.

Great staff, great place to hunt. Two of us hunted West Turkey compartment; four days, four bucks, two each. Cafe on square and mexican food restaurant were good places to eat. Coopers BBQ overpriced and not that good. Hunt safe.

thanks guys, that is some good reviews on the turkey pasture, I did not know they had a N and a W turkey pasture, that may of been what I read about was a N and a W pasture it was probably those buy the way it sounds, another guy said he hunted the far NE pasture and could not remember the name but they were done first day and seen plenty of animals so hopefully we can get a good pasture and see some animals and hope they will allow us to take a axis, we hope, that's not the main reason of going but it would be a nice bonus. Sounds great and thank you all, keep it coming. That is one good thing about this forum hunters helping hunters with a unknown area and what to expect and prepare for, thanks again.

I hunted MM in 2011 for the Scimitar in my sig line. At that time, the Axis were only in one pasture. I do not recall the name, but it was not the Turkey pasture. I believe you can no longer take Axis on the WT hunts. Their Axis population holds pretty steady so this may be why. You will drive through the pasture that holds Sable to get to the Turkey so take your camera. There was a stud of a herd bull when I was there in 2011. They have lots of Scimi and Gemsbok, in separate pastures. They also have Sable, and a few Waterbuck. When I was last there, they were down to one lonely old Blackbuck, saw that dude multiple times during my hunt, wish I'd have been allowed to kill him.

The Bunkhouse and associated kitchen are very nice accommodation. No need to mess with a hotel.

In Mason, Willow Creek Cafe is a terrific breakfast spot. My lease is 20 min away and I hit it just about every trip.

The area is beautiful and you should have an enjoyable hunt regardless. The staff there are all top-notch guys and will help you. The compartment I was in had a couple basic blinds that could be used, though I did not for Scimi.

Unfortunately they don't do axis hunts during deer hunts because too many people complained they weren't in a compartment with axis. So no one gets to hunt them. Gotta love whiners. When I was there last year several hunters left after first couple of days cause the weren't seeing anything. I have an idea why and its not cause there are no animals. Stay and enjoy the entire hunt its worth it just for the scenery. Also hunt on top of the hills you will see more. Wish I was going back but I got selected for Chaparral WMA this year, beggars can't be choosers smile

I hunted central turkey pasture and there were lots of animals. There was one other one taken the first day. I don't know how the rest of the hunt went but would like to know the success rate if anyone else has information. Most of the other hunters I talked to that evening saw animals but none on the target list.

I'm betting you're the guy without a hat standing behind the three ladies in the center?
