Don't laugh. Haha. I was watching a bow show and they said something about they are wearing orange because it's rifle season. So it got me asking do you have to wear orange during bow season on public land in Texas?

Yes you do.

Actually on public land you have to wear it, just about, year round. Most WMA's do not have a closed season on rabbits meaning you can harvest with a gun. That being said you have to wear orange anytime gun hunting is allowed, meaning year round.

Brandon is correct. Each piece of public land, like a WMA, will have its own set of rules, however, as spelled out in the WMA Annual. Pay close attention.

Thank you. Hogs are allowed with firearms year round so it would better be safe than sorry.

Not all WMA's are hog, year round with firearms. Some are hog with archery only during specific months.

Make sure the WMA you are on you check the Annual Booklet.

Like you said, better safe than sorry.

Best of luck to you this season.

Yup I just checked. It's year round for hogs with fire arms and squirrel as well. So orange it is. In the past during rifle season I have seen hunters wear orange to their tree stand and then hang it around the tree above them. Is this legal? Would be a good idea so they do not focus on moving orange and less likely to get busted

I doubt you'd get busted 20-30 foot up a tree by a warden who's roaming through. Keep the orange close and you'll be fine

Not legal, but enforcement depends on the individual GW. But be advised that in the national forests, which includes some WMAs, federalies also patrol those areas, not just TPWD GWs.

I think a person "commits an offence" if they are not wearing orange anytime they are off of a road or out of a designated parking area. I however do not always wear it while I am 25' up in a tree. I guess that's a risk im willing to take. I would have a hard time believing that someone could get within shooting range of me without me knowing it thought.

And to further what Titan said, unless a warden is searching for a particular person, I don't see any reason why they would be as far back in the woods as I am. lol
