Let my lease go to someone else last night (a THF member that does not post much). I was on this lease since 2009, made some great memories with my son, hated to let it go. But he is not that interested any more, and private water shooting just does not do it for me any more.

But it was a great experience, hope the new guy enjoys it as much as we did, he has 13 year old boy, I wish them the best. I was great for us, but time to move on...

That was an awesome grey hole for sure. Since you have 2 months vacation time you should do well on public.

I dunno, adventuring is fun but if I could actually get on a productive duck lease I don't think I could let it go.

I'm in the same boat. Usually lease out of state so I just don't know who to lease from and have heard too many bad stories about leases up here in NTX where I am.

at a certain point public just becomes more challenging, I mean if you can successfully hunt public week in and week out your pretty much on top of your waterfowl game

hunting private is like shooting clays pretty much, just trigger time

I have never hunted public, so forgive the dumb question. I want to take my grandson, does he have to have a public permit also, he's 14 YO?

Youth license is all he needs.

No problem, I was really looking for someone that was the best fit, I promised the owner I would find someone good, and the guy that is taking over is really a perfect fit.

Just make sure you have your APH permit if you take him on a Type 2 public hunt.

yup..I love a private shoot ever now and then, and will miss my private I lost this year, but I enjoy the challenge public throws in your face..just gotta know where and when on public cuz some areas are full of jagoffs.

I'm not a guide but I hunt public 90% of the time for a reason. 6-7 days a week. All season long. And I'd be embarrassed to admit the number of birds I kill (legally). But I put a heck of a lot of hours in scouting and cover a lot of water. For no other reason than it's challenging and a heck of a lot of fun. As it should be.

I jokingly say that private is cheating because I have hunted public for so long and its alot more challanging or as Guy says- adventurous. Private just seems to easy.

Anyone who thinks public sucks or is no good simply does not put in the time or only hunts on the weekends.
There are more ducks to be killed then most people can image on public and most cases within walking distance.
