I have a question for those of you familiar with elk in the Texas Hill Country. Will they rut at the same time as the elk in New Mexico or Colorado? I have a small place my friend lets me hunt on near Medina and recently they saw a small bull, two spikes, and a cow near the feeders. He told me last year they had game cam pictures of twelve at one time! I know that right now the bulls are bugling like crazy in Colorado……I was thinking about heading up there this week and trying some cow calls to see if they would come in. Does anyone know for sure? The ranch is only 60 acres low fence and the elk apparently are free ranging between the ranches. I know they are also free range in the Leakey area right up the road. Thanks!

I was told peak will be starting here in week or so and go for couple weeks. I start my Texas Elk hunt tomorrow, so will be on the front end of it, but hopefully still some good talking. They have been hard about 3-4 weeks.

I don't know about Texas but in the mountains, they start rutting in the high country earlier than the lower country. I have also seen them put off rutting until later when summer temps last through September. So I would think it might be a little later in Texas but I haven't been around elk much in Texas.

I'm hunting Elk in Texas right now. All the bulls by themselves except one was with 2 cows. Not a single bugle at all! We can get them looking when calling, but they are hanging up 400+ yards. Pretty much have to just spot and stalk right now without them working.
