I've been hunting out of a 4x4 stand at one of my places the last few years, and just couldn't deal with the lack of space any more. I like to be able to stretch my legs a bit, figured 5x5 would fit the bill.

So you know it's going to be a long weekend when it starts out like this:

A little cutting and welding, and we've got a good base to start with.

Then comes the framing:

Got that finished up today, and picked up a used RV door that I just had to set in to see what it's going to look like:

More to come, got a whole bunch of holes to drill tomorrow.

Doesn't ever seem like you get as much done for the time it takes... Got the windows framed out, roof support set, and started drilling holes to mount the skins.

Based on replies, it's not very exciting, but I want to document this somewhere.

Got the back wall skinned and mounted the door:

Skinned the rest:

The legs will bolt to the bottom, with about 18" of adjustment to level:

Now I need some help. Where can I source smoked lexan or plexiglass local to the D/FW area? I'll build my own window frames, just need a couple pieces of lexan to go in them.

looking good.

What are you using there for skin? Like the idea of the levelers just hope they don't slip with some people in there, would make for a very exciting morning hunt!

If I were you, I would just order some deer view windows out of mansfield texas, they make great windows and you don't have to dork with framing anything. Just give them you dimensions and they will make them with tinted glass or clear, and they can put camo mesh inside as well. Just a thought.

The skin is smart siding from Lowes. The legs are a good design, I've used them on heavier blinds without issue. This one being so low to the ground, I think (hope) it shouldn't have any problems.

I've seen the deer views, but I'm not fond of them. I don't think they'll work with the way I made the window framing. Besides that, they're pretty pricey for what they are.

Does lowes or home depot not carry lexan or other plastic material for windows?

I like the smart siding, stands up well to the heat and weather. Blind should last for along long time.

That can't wear well on those feet, if it works though it's a pretty good idea. I'd just go old school with the Windows. Cut them out of plywood to fit your openings, put hinges on the outside up top and mount 1x2s on the bottom inside to where you can push them up and rig some yard sticks cut into thirds then cut v's into both ends to hold them up up

The feet angle actually works out well, they settle into the dirt, and then drive rebar through the holes to keep the blind from tipping due to wind. Probably more important on a 10 foot tower, but it'll work.

Lowes and HD don't sell their smoked lexan in a 5 foot length. And my skinny arse don't tolerate a cold morning with the windows open. grin

Weld a brace in the middle of each window frame and just use two sections of Home Depot tinted plexi

I'll throw this in here in case anybody else is looking. Allied Plastics in Dallas cut me two 58.5x12 pieces of tinted plexiglass for $32. (I already had one piece)

Blind is looking pretty good.
After putting Deerview windows in my blind,I'll never use anything else. They don't cost much more than what you spend building your own.

And got her set in her new home...

Almost done. Forgot my can of spray paint to paint the legs. I didn't want to build stairs for it until I got the actual height figured out. Forgot to get a pic of the inside, but I'll bet most on this site can imagine the inside of a wooden box with windows.

My favorite part is the RV door followed by the legs.

Great idea! Sat in my 4x4 this season and swore my next stand would be a 5x5 too. Even if it's wastes a little plywood, it is worth it.

Looks great.

I don't know on the windows, but if that window is one piece that opens up to the outside I doubt we could ever open it without scaring the deer off unless you open it as soon as you get in the blind.

I don't think I ever got a pic with the stairs on, I only got to hunt this one twice with the weather we got this year. But they're just deck stairs.

And yes, it's 1.5 x 1/8 angle, skinned with smart siding.
