I've ordered from Optics Planet twice in the past. Both times items were on back-order but that fact wasn't listed on their site. Cancelled both orders. Read many stories of people having the same experience. I was recently looking for a SPARC II & saw they sell one in FDE. Thought to myself, "self, these people are not to be trusted". So after seeing on their site that it was to be shipped in 3-5 days, & they're the only ones who sell it in FDE, I bought it. Fast forward 9 days w/no email I call them. "Sorry, but that's backordered until mid December". WTF??? No phone call, no email, nada. Once AGAIN, they burned me. Avoid them as they still suck & probably will not change.

I recently deleted a thread about them where I was ranting. It was proven later on in the thread that i overlooked some vital information. None the less their advertising is very misleading. I tried to order a scope that clearly says 6 available even as of right now. Later on somewhere in the ordering process it says not available. Here's a pic I just took of the advertisement. They DO NOT have this scope available. Even though this clearly says they do.

I have the email that says it'd ship in 3-5 days. Then noticed last night they changed it on the ad page from 3-5 days to 2-3 months. Email still says 3-5 days. They suck. They've been doing this same thing for years & I have no idea how they are still in business!

I order online, @ least once a week, & haven't ever called to see if an item is in stock if their site let's me order & pay ESPECIALLY when I click on their 'check product availability' link on the ad page & it says 'ships in 3-5 days'. I've ordered over $2,500 worth of stuff online just since Sept. 1st, from guns to ammo to mags to car parts to camping equipt., from 5 different vendors, & all has arrived as their website said it would EXCEPT Optical Planets item. They suck.

Try 24.5 weeks wait on a rifle scope. I placed my order back in March knowing the wait would be 14wks +/- a week or two. After 20 weeks had passed I called and inquired where my scope was. Never was an email update sent to me regarding my order. I politely asked its status and they responded that it should ship any day. I, foolishly, let that response be sufficient. Two weeks later still nothing. I called again and am told she can't get a hold of their S&B representative and will call me back as soon as she does. 3 days go by and no phone call. I call back again and "throw the gloves off" giving the poor lady in the other end all I ahd and more. Ultimatum was get me a ship date or I am cancelling this order and you can ....... She amazingly calls me back the next day and gives me a ship date of 9/11. Low and behold it showed up tonight. If it weren't for saving about $500 on the scope I would have bailed long ago. Will be hard to do business with them again.

I guess I've been lucky. I've ordered around 15 items from OpticsPlanet across 5-6 different orders, and only once was an item delayed. I ordered the last NF 20 MOA base they had in stock (said 1 left) but it ended up back ordered and took an extra 10 days. All other items have shipped in the time frame suggested on their site. I just ordered a Plano case from them last week, said 2-3 days, bam it shipped on day 3 and arrived today. I will say that every time I've ordered from them I've saved significant $$$ over all the other vendors I've checked and I've never had a problem with an item arriving in bad shape. If I do order from them again and it's a questionable item I will either call first or make sure I can live without it for a bit. Sorry you guys have received bad service-none of us like that.

A month ago I ordered two Trulock chokes from Optics Planet. Website stated both were in stock and would ship in 2-3 days. Ten days later one choke arrived and when I called about the other one was told it was back ordered until mid September and that it was Trulock's fault. When I looked at the return address on my package it was Trulock. I called Optics Planet back and was told they always have Trulock ship chokes, they don't keep any inventory. I then asked if they had access to Trulock's inventory system so they could know what Trulock had in stock. I was told yes. Smelling a rat I called Trulock, it is a good honest company. Trulock told me that of course what Optics Planet told me was false and Optics Planet was one of several retailers that said they had chokes in stock with no idea of whether they were in stock at Trulock had them or not. Trulock was indeed out of stock with a run scheduled in September, but they said they would figure something out and get me the other choke before dove season. I received the choke from them three days before the season started. As I stated, Trulock is an awesome company.

I was already displeased with Optics Planet before this incident. I won a scope from them in a drawing in June and the hoops I had to jump through to get the scope almost made me turn it down. Never say never. I might possibly order from them again but they will always be my last option. I'll even pay a few dollars more to purchase from another retailer.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

I've had the same type of issues with SWFA. They burnt me twice on driving over to their store to compare several higher end scopes that they said everyone of them was in stock. After driving 45 miles, they only had one of the scopes that I wanted to look at in stock.
I will never order anything from SWFA,they lost my business pulling that stuff.

Wow, I have been fortunate! I have only ordered 3 items from them, a camera, scope and rangefinder. All came as described on the site, I did call on the camera since it was a Christmas gift and most etailers where OOS.

I have read about there problems though and will sure be careful if needing anything in the future, half the time I can get what they have cheaper somewhere else anyway.

I'm at 3 out of 5 orders with them.
When they have it, it's usually right here, right now!
When they don't, it can get pretty miserable sometimes as they keep promising 2 days or next week months after it was supposedly "in stock"...
It's now at the point that if I order from them and get the dreaded "it's not really in stock" message and they offer refund, I take the refund and run away!!

They are merely drop shippers that draw on stock from various warehouses in different locations.
The problem is there are lots of internet only store fronts that draw from that same inventory.
Real time inventory data usually doesn't exist as the warehouses run an inventory consolidation report around midnight when server traffic is the lightest.
That inventory is then updated in the warehouse database and posted as a report.
When an online store queries the stock, they only get the report.
When you talk to a person, they get on their computer and access real time data.

Looking @ the size of that warehouse compared to how many websites they own proves they are mostly a drop shipper! They claim to carry over 500,000 products. Well, that warehouse doesn't even have 1/5th of that, unless they only have 1 of each item.

I live 5 minutes from SWFA & use them when they have what I want. Unfortunately, the SPARC II I was buying was a limited run in FDE for Optics Planet.

Glad I did a search here. I was looking for a THF discount but found this thread instead. I will make sure to stay away from them.
