Good news!

Just an update for those who would like to know.

I was able to locate a hole where the drainage was coming out. I squeezed a lot of pus out but was not able to find a thorn or anything still in there. Swelling has almost gone completely away and she's not limping anymore. She will probably miss the rest of teal season but glad she's okay.

Good to hear. The idea is to keep that hole open and draining/flushing as long as possible, the hole heals up and pus builds up and trapped inside is not good.

Puncture wounds like this are a different beast than lacerations/abrasions but the best ointment that you can use on your dogs are ozonated oils. They are antibiotic in nature and promote healing. I would coat his paw in between the pads every night. I use them in all my extraction patients at work (am a dentist) and there is a dramatic difference in healing and post operative pain vs when it isn't used. I will post a few pictures of healing 'lick granuloma' with the oil in the gun dog section for those interested. I get my oils from ozoneoils.com

Great! Make sure you finish her antibiotics, down to the last pill. She'll be 100% and back in action long before Dez will.

I'll throw a hunsky down it was a mesquite thorn. Those aren't too bad. It gets really ugly when they break off a Bois d'arc or locust thorn in their pad.. Foot will swell up the size of a baseball. My boy Bart used to be a locust thorn magnet. All part of hunting freshly flooded backwaters. You can do your best to clear the kill zone but its what's under the water that you can't see that does it everytime. Bart would take one for the team if it meant straight green. That boy would stand on 3 legs and still finish up our limit. Then it was lance, remove thorn, drain and anitibiotic time at the vet. We had the drill down
