Saturday at Frisco gun club my new Ruger SR22 blow apart and it is a common problem from what I can see.
After about 100 rounds and 3 rounds in to a new mag the slide flew off and parts went everywhere.
the slide landed a good 10 yards in front on the concrete floor. There where bits of plastic in hands and face and the recoil spring lay on ground about 2ft from where I was standing.
After retrieving the slide and attempting to put the pieces back together the slide would not stay on. Thats when i noticed that the slide lock or takedown was gone. Its a plastic piece which appears to have broken and can cause the slide to fly off at any piont after some online review this appears to be a common problem with the Sr22 and if not upgraded i really dont know if i want it back.

Dang, I hope you are okay.
I also have one, no problems yet.
Keep us updated on how Ruger handles this.

I just sent it back yesterday. what was strange to me is when i told the ruger rep about it and told her of injurys she just went to next ? like they have been trained to ignore that part.

I have that pistol and run it suppressed......Couple thousand rounds with no issues. Glad you are ok, I had a .17 hmr chamber blow up on me like that and it isn't that much fun. Only time in my life I legitimately thought I was going deaf and possibly blind in one eye.

Sorry for your problem and glad it wasn't worse.

I've been considering getting an SR 22 and have been reading the various forums lately looking for reviews etc. Yours is the first failure/issue with injuries that I can recall. The problem is if it happened to you it has probably happened to others as well.

I would expect the customer service rep to move right on past any injury discussion and focus on the gun repair/replacement issue.

Please do let us know how this all turns out.

Wow!! Exact same thing happened to me nearly 4 years ago! Had less than 400 rounds through mine at the time... Cant believe they are still having that issue bang

I took a guy hunting one time and before he went he wanted to shoot his .243 Mohawk. I was standing next to him and fire came out all around the bolt. He ejected the case and it had a perfect 2mm sized hole in the base of it around the writing. Man the guy could of been blinded right there. Kinda flash burned his face. That's the weirdest Ive seen.

Yes, they replaced it for me. I traded it for a M & P 22 which I still have to this day. I like the M&P much better.

Thanks for the follow up. Glad to know Ruger did the right thing but still disturbing to know this is not all that rare an issue.

I have not given the M&P 22 much thought but will look at it closer now. Thanks again.

The two discussed here are the only two I've heard of but that may not mean anything.

Glad you are OK.

Keep us updated as I'm a Ruger fan and expect them to at least take care of medical bills (if any) and send some freebies.

The lady on the phone would likely never make promises. She's an order taker. Ruger would obviously need the gun back before the offered anything like any other manufacturer. Not sure what you have to do next after they get the firearm for inspection and reply with their side.

Pass the gravy.
