Has anyone camped at the Merkel Creek Campsite or Pond Camp Campsite on Davy Crockett NF? Wondering if these sites have good flat ground to set a tent on? Any help will be appreciated... Thanks

I've hunted there several times, and never had an issue finding good areas to camp. You should be fine.

I tried to hunt Davy Crockett NF years ago. Practically no game around and other hunters were dangerous as heck. After looking down two gun barrels in on morning, along with many other problems, I quit national forests. To many thieves and idiots with guns just itching for something (or someone) to shoot. I was lucky to get out of there alive. My Uncle hunted there and sat up in a tree. He had a bullet from and unseen shooter splatter the tree trunk right beside his head. He was up in a tree for God's sake! He quit NF too. Ya'll can have National Forest hunting. It's to dangerous because it full of idiots and thieves that like to steal your stuff while your not in camp!

I've hunted there many times, and killed several deer, and hogs.. Never had any issues. I ran into a few hunters but the ones I did were very polite.. But I've heard horror stories as well.. Like Colt.45 says, hunt with a buddy and stay safe..
