I remember old Fred. When the game warden responded on the thread he posted I damn near fell out of my chair.

I've seen more than one timber rattler post, bucks under 13", duck guides over their limits and a couple posts of head/horns cut off of road kill bucks. The snakes and road kill posts seemed like honest mistakes or not knowing the law, which isn't a excuse but still a mistake.

Nobody is perfect and we've all had tickets for something at one point I'm sure.

Negative, that's using your resources. If you're hunting for deer, would you rather randomly walk around looking for them or concentrate on an area where they are funneled? Actually, they check these sites more on their time off, after they've been out doing it the way you think they should. up

I feel that the "SSS" mentality does not de-classify your status as a law abiding hunter. Ignorance of the law may not be an excuse to break it, but how do you handle a critter that is damaging your property or killing pets or livestock in the area? "Well I coulda got him last night but I decided to check the regs first." Give me a break.

Then there was the guy who posted pictures of his buddies holding up a couple of buzzards they'd shot over an old carcass. I remember another one who posted pic's of a nice buck he's taken and had in the back of his truck. The truck was parked in front of his house and he still hadn't tagged it. The rules are there for all to see yet some just can't abide to hunting or fishing by the rule's.

Several years ago I hunted Antelope near Quay New Mexico with a hunting service out of Roswell, the year before I had hunted same ranch and killed a very nice antelope. At that time in New Mexico, and may still be that way, you could only hunt them every other year. The guy with the hunting service told me "I can sell you a Land Owner Permit and you can hunt". Wrong. There were 3 of us hunting and a friend killed a nice buck, the game warden stopped by camp while we were dressing it out to check everything. His comment about the buck was that it was a good one for the ranch, dummy me, I said it is a nice one but not as nice as the one I killed here last year. Then the questioning started, after he found out all the particulars he told us "don't leave camp I'll be right back". He went after the guy who sold us the permits and wrote ME a ticket, he apologized for having to write me the ticket, when I told him that the guy would repay me he smiled and said "good". He then escorted us into town to appear before the JP and the line was long, lots of shooting from vehicle and driving off established road. It ended up being a fine of $250, AND I HAD TO LOAN THE GUY $50, to pay the fine. He did reimburse me the money for the out of state lic, the $ for the permit and the $50 I had loaned him. I knew the law but let him talk me into buying the permit. His one question was "How the heck did he find out you had hunted the year before?" Duh, you told me it was legal so I bragged a little about my buck from the year before.

AND, if you'd crossed state lines with that animal or any part of it you'd been guilty of a Lacy Act violation, Federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and $500,000.00 fine.

So.... You wanna post a pic of the mount?? bolt

why would you think that? Most everyone I have come across here are valid law abiding hunters. I may not agree with their management practices or evaluation of deer but I have never thought folks on this forum are in trouble with GW - again why would you think that?

And why would you think that folks who break a game law are not valid law abiding hunters??

You ever get caught speeding? Roll through a stop sign?

I had a baptist preacher who wounded a javelina with his bow one evening during gun season. Let it bleed till just before dark and went in to a prickly pear patch with a side arm to try and recover it. Javi came at him and he emptied the side arm at the Javi and it ran back into the pear patch. Was out of bullets and it was dark so he went back to camp. GW came in and asked how everyone's hunt went. Preacher told his story. GW wrote him a $500 ticket for not making an attempt to recover a game animal.

Two years ago the same game warden gave one of my hunters a $500 ticket for ME pre signing an MLD tag as landowner. I own 3 MLD ranches in a 3 hour circle and cannot possibly be on every ranch at the same time to sign tags on the same day the deer are killed. Found out on here that game wardens have been present as ALL MLD tags were pre signed by the landowner or his assignee.

Some GW's are just nuts. And some tickets they write are just plain wrong.

Point is: There are soooo many laws. If you have hunted, you have broken a game law. So, we are all "speeders", and we are all "poachers". It's only a matter of degree.

Good reason to make sure any picture you post doesn't have the GPS data embedded. Most cell phone pictures do.
