This weekend I heard allot about when the "Northern Birds get here". "these are all resident birds" etc.
When do you know the "Northern Birds" are here?
have the guide/outfitter call you?

When the bird populations have been spotty and all of a sudden they increase, there is a cold front to the north maybe not reaching all the way south but there, it's not rocket science to figure out what happend.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

have the guide/outfitter call you? That's what outfitters tell you when the hunting is slow.

The birds are a lot bigger. Normally the pin feathers are longer. Not all guides are liars...

Northern birds show up carrying carpetbags with a sense of entitlement.
Ok, actually just watch for the cold fronts. They generally push birds south.

SA weather guessers are saying next weekend a strong cold front will hit south TX. I say
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

The strong coldfronts will push the north texas birds south and will bring MAYBE the northern birds here, IF they ever stop in north texas. I prefer no fronts and keep on shooting the 'locals'

seen a pic on another forum from NW Panhandle and the lines were full of birds... we normally have a front thru here mid-sept before Szone opens our resident doves go south and we have to wait for the Plains birds to arrive...

I have no idea if it has anything to do with a front, but my bag included much bigger birds yesterday than the hatchlings I was killing one the first 2 days of the season. I think half of those still had pieces of egg shells in their feathers!

Noticed several very large groups around Frisco this morning that were not here yesterday. Larger birds as well.
