Don't try to put your plug in an 870 in tall grass. The spring will jump out of your hand, and you will not be able to find it. Others will shoot their limit while you are looking for a spring. You will eventually get frustrated and begin shooting single shot.

purell, gloves, grocery bags, rolled up orange socks... all useful in the field. (the socks are to be dropped when you get a shot in heavy grass so you have a reference point to search from)
