Panther Arms Oracle 223/5.56. I'm going to keep it stone stock just looking for a solid sight set up. Never used any of the red dot sights but I'm interested. This will be a 200 yard rife so any magnification needed will be minimal. I'd like to keep this below 250, even a fixed 4x will work if I decide to use a scope. Just need something solid, it's going to see some rough use.

I have one of those that rides with me. Put a $100 2x7 on it and a $5 sling. From zero to 200 yards it's beautiful. Well, after I replaced the horrible trigger...

Hey Mike. I hope this helps. I was going to put a red dot sight on mine as well. It will work great out to about 75-100 yards. They are more of a close encounter type scenario. I'm not saying it won't work, it most definitely will. You may need an enhancer though to reach way out. Let me know when you get yours and we can shoot a few rounds. Here are a couple of decent ones and not way bad on pricing.

If I was going to get a red dot, I'd get an EOTech. The field of view is far superior to the other more scope-like optics.

If you want to reach out to 200 yards with any accuracy, you've got a decision to make. If you want to be prepared for close shots at any time, then an EOTech with a flip-to-side magnifier will make the most sense. If you don't care about being able to make quick close shots, then just get a decent 1x-4x scope and call it a day. The SWFA 1-4x24 would be the top end of what I would spend ($400), but you can go cheaper if you want for that type of application IMHO.

I went ahead and just put a scope on it until I figure out what I want to do.

That'll work. Put a 10 or 20 round magazine in and it becomes rather light and handy...
