our guest yard buck (stays here constantly and fears nothing) is a fat young 6 point. Nice rack, and maybe he'll acquire some even better antlers in the years to come. Yesterday, as I was leaving the barn workshop to walk to the house, he was walking through the yard toward the wife's big corn feeder. Paid no attention to me. It was 4 pm. Feeder pays off at 4:45. He walked over to the feeder, looked for corn and saw none, then he just flopped down under the feeder to wait. He'd get up and look again from time to time, and he'd walk around a bit. I swear it was like he had a wristwatch. The closer it got to time, the closer he stood, till it rained corn on him.

The wife allows no deer to be shot in 'the yard', which is probably 8 or 10 acres, and she now knows exactly what a legal 13 inch buck looks like. She already told me 2 or 3 times that the little buck is legal, but "You better not shoot him". I'm not gonna shoot that little buck, and since he practically lives in the yard, nobody else is likely to shoot him. I'm gonna shoot the 3 point. Ugly little rack. Bad Genes. Gotta go, this season.

Man, you can't name them. The wife knows them from their respective racks. If I came back to the house with "the tall 8", she'd get all upset. I shot a really nice buck last year, and when I brought him back to the house the wife examined him closely to see if I had shot a pet of hers. Whew! She didn't recognize him. I have to hunt following the rules of the state of Texas and the much more stringent rules of The Wife.

A big crowd in our yard would be 10 or 12, and a normal crowd is 4 or 5 deer. But when the acorns drop, we'll have a big crowd for sure. The wife loves that, and so does our 20 pound Tomcat. He stalks the deer like he was gonna jump one and kill it. The bucks watch him like he's some sort of harmless nutcase and only shake their racks at him if he gets too close.

The tiger comes out in a lot of house cats from time to time. I think my buddies wife would know pretty fast if he shot one of those. She is a die hard bow hunter too.
