I know TPWD is working to stock Pronghorn in different areas in the state, but are any private landowners or organizations having success or even attempting to stock Pronghorn? Just curious.

I saw a ranch outside of Fredericksburg that had them once, but didn't know if it was common. You never hear about people stocking pronghorns. Seems like it would be a good idea though

The Rocker B did it back in the 70's. They're still there. Maybe some day I'll get to see them. I have seen a few between Big Lake and Barnhart. It was either private land or university land, probably.

We did some work on the rocker b and saw quite a few pronghorn, two monsters milled around our trucks all day one day. Kinda cool

Dozer, mulched, and trackhoe work. Fencelines, senderos, tanks. Let me know if I can help with any dirtwork or construction.

It was back in 2012, I was driving down the highway and there they we're, about 20 pronghorn behind a 8' fence from what I remember.

The 6666's brought 25 in back in 1977, I believe it was. They put them in a pasture that bordered US 83 about 4 miles north of Guthrie. For those of you familiar with the area, it was at 4 Mile Hill. About half of them made a home right there about 200 yds off the fence. They never seemed to vary the distance from the fence, just moved up and down it. The other half traveled about7-8 miles as the crow flies and wound up on the Masterson Ranch. I believe there are none left. Poachers accounted for many of them.

Most likely not Pronghorn but maybe Blackbuck or Thomson's Gazelle.

Ive stalked them. Once they decide to run, well you may not see them again. I shot one running away at an angle at 300 yards last season, because I didn't feel like trying that again. The wind was blowing so hard that I got up wind so that the 40 mile an hour 40 degree wind wouldn't blow my .223 bullet way away. They smelt me, but it was too late. Dropped him and he was hiding behind a dozen girls while running. Almost didn't find him in short grass?? same color. The drag back to the dirt road was lug burn city and almost threw up. up

Right off 163, about 4 miles before the start of the Rocker B. There were probably 25-30 of them out there right off the road that day.

Cool story bro...but what does your stalking an antelope and killing him with a .223 wtih a 40 mph wind on a 40 degree wind day rolleyes have to do with a possible restocking antelope in Gillespie County or Texas confused2

I have no doubt the antelope I saw that day were pronghorn, but yes while many ranches stock black buck I wouldn't think it would be impossible for them to stock pronghorn.

Oh like stocking livestock haha. Didn't know they did such. Theyre everywhere up there, figured they were over run. Heck some counties are open.

What highway and direction from town? I am up there several times per year and was just up there last week. I would love to see them if they are truly pronghorns.
It would take a TTT permit and then the correct habitat, both of which I doubt would be allowed or found on small acreage in that county.

Ranch near Throckmorton gets some tags some years. Have seen them off of 380 west of town before.

The biologist over at Matador WMA said that they get the occasional pronghorn there. That should be about the same area.

Could of been springbuck.

I think you made an identity mistake.

I don't see TPWD permiting them to be released in non core areas when the are currently full throttle on restocking efforts of the transpecos region.

There is a descent herd of them about 15-20 miles south of Midland off the West side of the road that I have seen on several occasions (low fence). A couple of bruisers in that group for sure.

Off 349? I drive through there all the time and work just a few miles south of there. I had better start paying closer attention. I never expected much out of that area.

Dead on Sneaky. Once you go down the very small slope in the highway just outside of Midland there is a pivot on the West side of the highway. From there down another 5 miles is where they tend to hangout.

I don't think those species look all that similar, and I don't think that i made a mistake. But for the sake of the conversation and to get this back on track... What would keep a rancher say in Lubbock or Pampa (just for example) from stocking pronghorn on his ranch? Just wondering if private landowners have the ability to help grow a stronger population of pronghorn? Or do we sit back and wait on the government to do it? Everyone and their dog can own a whitetail these days... What about a pronghorn. No, I'm not suggesting that we high fence antelope, that would be a whole nother topic of conversation lol

Only way outside of a draw to get an PH Antelope permit is via biologist survey On private land.
Essentially unless you get issued a LO permit you ain't killing one legally. To move or relocate a pronghorn in Texas would require a permit from the state also

Thanks, but I wasn't asking how I can kill a pronghorn...We hunt pronghorn in Wyoming. I am asking if it is possible for landowners to provide appropriate habitat, introduce, and grow pronghorn in Texas. Just like a ranch might work to reintroduce deer or quail. Granted I do not know much about the process, hence why I asked the question. I must be the first person to have ever considered the concept.

You said it would require a permit to transport, so it might be possible...?
